Apple App review Guideline 5.2.3 - Legal

Apple App review Guideline 5.2.3 - Legal

Hi everyone,

I need some guidance with my app, The Beats, which I'm trying to submit to Apple for review. They've flagged an issue under Guideline 5.2.3 - Legal, and are asking for documentation to verify that I have all necessary rights or permissions for the third-party audio or video streaming, catalogs, and discovery services used in my app.

Here's a bit of context:

  • I’m using the Spotify API for third-party music streaming.
  • My app utilizes “Audio Preview Clips,” which are 30-second preview clips accessible via the Spotify Platform.
  • I've set up a developer account with Spotify and added our bundle identifier (app.beats).
  • According to Spotify's developer terms, using (i) Widgets or (ii) Audio Preview Clips is not considered "Streaming" for the purposes of their Developer Terms.

My question is:

What specific documents should I collect from Spotify, and how can I present them to satisfy Apple's requirements regarding rights or permissions for the third-party audio or video streaming, catalogs, and discovery services in my app?

Any advice or shared experiences would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance for your help!

Also, can anyone tell me what i did violate the spotify policy in the following attached screens of my APP?

Guideline 5.2.3 - Legal

Your app contains content or features that may violate the rights of one or more third parties. Specifically, your app provides potentially unauthorized access to third-party audio or video streaming, catalogs, and discovery services.

Your app and its contents should not infringe upon the rights of another party. In the event your app infringes another party’s rights, you are responsible for any liability to Apple because of a claim.

Next Steps

To resolve this issue, please attach documentary evidence in the App Review Information section in App Store Connect evidencing that you have all necessary rights or permissions to the third-party audio or video streaming, catalogs, and discovery services in your app.

Once we have reviewed your documentation and confirmed its validity, we will proceed with the review of your app.
