How accurate is valence?

How accurate is valence?

I'm currently working on an app that uses the API, and I'm using the get get audio features endpoint to get the valence of songs.

This song: https://open.spotify.com/track/2TLIGSbQK27nod2mLbVp1d?si=09611e8fa2944595

has a valence of 0, which doesn't really make sense since it doesn't sound that sad or negative. Also, how can a song have 0 valence. Does this just mean that the valence value is null? I noticed that the type of value for valence in the object is a float, so maybe this just means null?

Let me know what you think!

I just put some of my songs through Distrokids similar system. Really not sure what l think. People say my music is beautiful and calming to listen to, but the valence is low. The Weeknd and Ed Sheeran’s hits, ie. Shape of You, high on dance ability and valence. Yet, historically, we know there is so much great music that is low on dance ability and valence. So l guess l just went down this rabbit hole of valence! Very interesting, for sure!

In response to your specific song sample, the 0 valence makes no sense. Your song sample sounds relaxed and nice to me, even with, Cries, in the title, as expressing any emotion is a positive in my opinion.
