I want to create something which can use to sync music streaming in two or more spotify accounts.

I want to create something which can use to sync music streaming in two or more spotify accounts.

Let me explain my idea a bit. As you know spotify have a cool feature called jam, in which people can create and join a jam session. But only premium users can listen music simultaneously on each device, free users can only change the music. I want to create a chrome extension or something, through which people can sync there music streaming specially between premium-free and free-free user. There won't be anything against the policies of spotify. Like the extension uses websockets to play same song on both the tabs and the premium user should be on stand by when free user is experiencing a ad.

Hi Kituuu,

Thanks for sharing your idea! Itโ€™s great to see your creativity in thinking about syncing music across Spotify accounts, especially between premium and free users. However, there are a few things to consider.

Spotify's Developer Policy emphasizes not building products that mimic, replicate, or replace a core Spotify experience without written permission. Since your idea closely relates to the "Jam" feature, which is a core part of Spotify's service, it could be seen as a violation of this policy. Even if the extension doesn't interfere directly with Spotify's services, syncing playback between accounts, especially between premium and free users, might be considered giving free users an experience that should only be available to premium users. This could create issues with policy compliance.

On the technical side, Spotify's Web API doesn't support WebSocket connections, which are crucial for real-time synchronization. Without this capability, achieving smooth, real-time sync between accounts would be difficult.

While your idea is innovative, you might run into challenges with both policy compliance and technical limitations. Instead of syncing playback, you could explore other ways to enhance the Spotify experience, like playlist tools or visualizations, as long as they donโ€™t replicate core Spotify features.

If you have any more questions or need further advice, feel free to ask. Best of luck with your project!

Hi Ximzend, thank you for your detailed answer.

I don't get the Spotify Policy about replicating a Spotify functionality. If we take the Jam functionality, Stationhead is currently proposing sync playback between accounts (premium here but still). How Stationhead is allowed to replicate Jam while it is not allowed by Spotify policies ?

Thank you !

Hi Momorad, thank you for making us aware of Stationhead sync playback. I will relay this information to the relevant team and see if there is a breach of policy in this case.

Hi LambertSpot! Thank you for your reactivity, please keep me informed ๐Ÿ™‚ I would love to build an app with sync playback between Spotify & Apple Music premium user, such as Stationhead. Would not be the main fuctionality but a really nice add.

have a nice day !
