Plays and streams not counted with Spotify embed?

I recently promoted my podcast website on Facebook and a few hundred people clicked my ad and visited my page, where I've embedded Spotify's episode player. I know many of these visitors played an episode because I can see downloads in my hosting platform. However, I see no activity in Spotify's stats.

Are Spotify podcast metrics counted when listening happens in the embedded player? Or do these metrics only take into account activity that happens in the Spotify app?
