My Question or Issue

Hello,

After spending essentially days online with the support portal, I figured I would post here to see if anyone can actually help me.

I have been using Spotify for almost 13 years with the same account for most of that time. As of last week, I had my old account and new account linked. My new account was created since I no longer had access to my old email account, which was deactivated by Yahoo for inactivity.

Last week, my old account got unlinked, and now I can’t get back into it. I was able to pull over all my public playlists but haven’t been able to get any support in transferring my old liked songs playlist.

Any solution would be greatly appreciated. I really don’t want to lose 13 years of songs that have been added to that playlist.

It sounds like a frustrating situation, especially after using the same account for so many years. Since your old account was unlinked and you no longer have access to the associated email, recovering it without Spotify support might be difficult. However, here are some possible solutions:

  1. Try accessing your old account

    • If you still remember your password, try logging in directly at Spotify.
    • If you forgot your password, try resetting it. Even without access to the old email, check if there’s another recovery option, such as a linked phone number or another email.
  2. Contact Spotify Support

    • Go to the Spotify Support Center and click on Contact Us.
    • Explain your situation and provide as much information as possible, such as your old username, payment details (if applicable), and any proof of account ownership.
    • Ask if they can transfer your liked songs playlist to your new account.
  3. Manually recover your liked songs

    • If you can still see your public playlists on your new account, one option is to open your old liked songs playlist and manually add all the songs to a new playlist.
    • If you can’t access your old account at all, maybe a friend who follows you on Spotify can still see your playlists and help recreate the list.

If Spotify Support can verify that the old account belongs to you, they might be able to help recover or transfer your playlist. I recommend insisting on contacting support, as they are the only official way to recover data from old accounts.

Note: I'm not a Spotify employee.

They are insistent that an account can only be validated via email, which seems to be a huge issue, especially since most websites/apps that require login now offer either email or phone number inputs for account recovery.

I have been able to pull the public playlist, so the issue is 90 percent resolved. It’s just the liked songs playlist that I really want, which is the only one I can't access.

I’m hoping a Spotify developer can help me come up with a creative solution. In this digital age, a true solution exists; I just need to find the right person to help.
