currently-playing API return an EMPTY RESPONSE (204)

My Question or Issue

The API to get the currently-playing track responds with 204 code, and an empty response body even though songs are playing in the windows app (latest update). Same if I play on my iPhone or in my car's Android tablet. All these apps are updated to their latest versions.

I have found multiple threads on this topic going back to 2018 but no fix or cause of the issue. Any insights on why this would happen, how to avoid it or fix it?
