"upstream request timeout" across multiple websites / embedded players / albums

Solved!

"upstream request timeout" across multiple websites / embedded players / albums

A number of our and our clients' websites are showing that "upstream request timeout" error for the last 24 hours. It's a bit random (some releases are embedding fine, others have this error). We've checked the URLs and replaced from a fresh share link, but no luck.

Before we replace all embeds with Amazon Music / Apple Music, we thought we'd check if this issue can be resolved swiftly.

Different websites, different hosts, different locations, different users/internet connections.

We have checked and conclude that hundreds of albums are affected. Here are just a couple of examples:

Looks like it's happening again. I am on a pc and getting this error on the pages I previously embedded episodes of a podcast on, in Spotify for Creators, and in regular Spotify app.

I am seeing this in October 2025. Our server has episode embeds using Spotify for Creators code. It has been working fine until this morning. Site visitors all see the upstream error message. We have flushed the server cache but that hasn’t changed the result. Any recommendations?

This is happening for us as well. Anecdotally, it's happening for our East coast US users, but not our West coast US users.

I'm also having this issue. Everything related to https://open.spotify.com/embed/ fails with the "no healthy upstream" error. And when I try to fetch the https://open.spotify.com/embed/iframe-api/v1, I usually get a "request timeout". I've tested with Chrome and Firefox, same results.

I am also having this problem.

We're having the same issues.
Error messages displayed where Spotify embeds would have been shown include;
--
upstream request timeout

no healthy upstream
upstream connect error or disconnect/reset before headers. reset reason: connection timeout

--
We're a media outlet supporting new artists and PR agencies and all our Spotify links aren't working anymore.
Inspection of console reveals the issue is server side with Spotify - screen shots attached.

Can the Spotify dev team confirm they are working on a fix?

Iframe embeds display a "upstream request timeout" error message.

Checking with a VPN it looks like iFrame embeds only work from some locations, such as New York and Copenhagen.

Example for testing:
https://developer.spotify.com/documentation/embeds/playgrounds/iFrameAPI

Screenshot 2025-10-29 at 10.43.47.pngWe also can't generate new embed codes using the Spotify app or web app.

Same issue here. Only able to view embeds from New York, Copenhagen and Brussels (via VPN).

Me too, im spanish premium user.

My app and my blog doesnt run share button too. Same weird message.

Same problem here. We're experiencing random outages, probs due to load balancer issues? Looks like 9 out of 10 connections are failing atm.

Same Error for 3 embedded Playlists on an contao-website - any solutions besides just waiting?

Same issue!

Same issue here from London. Big issue for my site. Can Spotify confirm they will have a fix in next 24 hours? Otherwise going to swap to amazon music / apple / youtube embeds for the time being.

We’re running into the same problems. Embedded Spotify players and iFrames aren’t showing up across multiple sites, and visitors are just seeing error messages where the Spotify content used to be. On top of that, we can’t generate new embeds right now, Spotify just returns errors. As a media outlet that supports emerging artists and PR agencies, it’s frustrating to deal with this recurring issue. We’re honestly starting to consider switching to a more reliable platform for our embeds.

Unable to embed tracks in my site. Embedded tracks are not loading and returning "no healthy upstream." I run a music platform so this is a major issue, can you confirm if it will be fixed in the next 48 hours or I will have to swap all embeds to amazon / apple / youtube.

Same issue on our side, on a US VPN it works. But on the Spanish network is failing

Our sites are now showing Spotify embeds now. 🎉
