/v1/me/player/currently-playing returning 401

My Question or Issue

When I call the spotify /v1/me/player/currently-playing api I receive a 401 response with message "Permissions missing". When I attempt to use the web console at https://developer.spotify.com/console/get-users-currently-playing-track/ I also receive a 401. All the other apis I've tried, both in my app and on the web console, work fine.

I have authenticated the app with both "user-read-currently-playing" and "user-read-playback-state" scopes.

Is this a known issue? Is there anything else I can do? thanks.
