I want to exit a family account and revert to a normal premium account.

Solved!

I want to exit a family account and revert to a normal premium account.

My partner and I split up recently and now I want to exit the family account we were sharing and have my own premium account again. How can I do this without losing all my playlists and other premium features?

Hi @MusicLoverAFO,

Thanks for posting in the Spotify Community, and welcome!

You can leave the Premium Family plan by following these steps:

  1. Log in to your account page
  2. Under Manage your plan, click Change plan
  3. Scroll to Spotify Free and click Cancel Premium
  4. Continue through to the confirmation message

When you leave the Premium Family plan, your account will immediately revert to the free service, and you can then subscribe to your own Premium Individual plan here.

No worries, changing subscription plans won’t cause you to lose any of your playlists or saved music, and you can keep your same Spotify account no matter which plan you switch to or from.

However, note that since downloading music for offline listening is currently a Premium feature, you’ll need to re-download any music for offline listening once you’ve started your own Premium Individual plan.

Let me know if you have any other questions, and have a good day!

Hi @AdamDam,

Thanks-a-million!  I followed your instructions and the transition went flawlessly.

You can't imagine how much this means to me...  😊

All the best, cheers,
MusicLoverAFO

I’m looking to do the same thing, but the prompts above don’t seem to be working. It looks like this original post was from over a year ago. Can someone please provide me with an updated solution? When I go into “subscription”, if I click “cancel subscription”, will that automatically set me on the free plan?

thanks in advance for your help!

Hi @Cass318,

You're right, the steps I shared in my previous reply are from an out of date support article; so instead, I recommend following the steps that you've suggested to leave the Premium Family plan:

  1. Go to your account page
  2. Select Cancel Subscription, under Subscription or under Manage your subscription
  3. Continue through to the confirmation message

Yes, this process will cause your account to immediately revert to the free service, without affecting the accounts of the other Premium Family plan members, and you can then subscribe to your own Premium Individual plan here.
