we've now disconnected from Alexa and Spotify and logged in with each account, mine to Alexa and his to Sonos, this itill keeps happening and overriding

Hey @clairbie_,

Thanks for getting back to us!

In this case, we'd recommend performing a clean reinstall of the app on your on both phones. It'll get you the latest app version with all necessary updates and fixes and remove any corrupted files from previous installations. Give your device a quick restart as well before you open the newly installed app. Try to re-connect the speakers again, make sure to close any other apps you're not using and test if you'll experience the same.

You can take a look at this support article to find more info on how to set Spotify as default on the Alexa device that you want to use it.

It's also a good idea to restart both your speakers and your router in order to make sure that everything is synched up.

On another note, would you mind checking for any pending updates for your speakers?

Keep us posted, we'll be on the lookout for your reply.

Hi Elana,

For some reason I can not fix this issue for my wife and myself. We got the premium duo plan for Spotify however we cannot change the option of us listening to different things at the same time. Please help, I do not want to listen to her podcast while she goes to work and I need to listen to my music while I am going to mine haha

Hey @rtom604,

Thank you for your reply in this thread.

Would you mind letting us know how you're streaming? Are you experiencing this issue while listening directly from your phone or when you're connected to a speaker, car, etc.? We need as much detail as possible in order to advise you better.

On another note, did you try any of the alternative steps that @CarlosE, @Ver and @Peter suggested earlier in this thread? It's a good idea to check them out as they might help you solve your inconvenience.

Let us know how it goes.

Its 2023 in having the exact problem everyone else is having three years later and it seems I have done everything recommended by every moderator suggested so far. It’s two phones no Alexa or anything else involved. I’m playing music it’s taken by her device but we’re ok two separate accounts for sure.

Hey everyone,

I'm planning to get premium duo for my wife and myself. Right now we are using spotiffy at home with one account and we can control music that is played on a mac since it's connected to the speakers. Will it be possible to do that with two separate accounts in duo premium? To clarify, is it possible for two accounts on one premium duo to control one home mac with speakers attached?

Thanks!

Hi @misterZee

Thanks for reaching out. It all depends on which account is logged in on that Mac, that is the account that will be able to control the playback and access the device via connect. That is also the account that would not be able to play something else at the same time as the Mac. It's also not possible to log in with more than one account on one device so both can control it.

Hope this clears things up.

what the **bleep**

Please I still don't understand this solution. If the other person uses their email to sign in, how will they be able to connect to my own duo subscription then?

How can I add my partner to my spotify duo so she can listen to her own songs?

Hi there @Fizz_,

Thanks for reaching out. The other user has to use their own separate account with their own login. The connection to the Duo subscription happens when you they accept your invitation, which you can do as shown here.

Hope this clears things up.

Hi there: to have separate accounts, on duo spotify, do we need to have separate passwords, email addresses? It never asked me when I signed my family member up. And now we cant listen to separate music. We cut each other off. Tooooo complicated for a simple concept. And, it still doesn't work!

Hey @user-removed,

Thanks for posting in the thread!

That's right - in order for the Duo plan to work properly, you need separate Spotify accounts, which are registered with different email addresses. Since you're interrupting each others music listening, you might be logged in to the same account in the app. You can also find more info about the Duo plan on this page 🙂

Could you ask your family member to log out from the app and back in again to see if it makes any difference? When they sign back in, make sure that your family member enters the login details for their own Spotify account.

You can also double-check so that your family member has accepted the invite to the Duo plan by following the link posted in our previous reply by @Joan.

Hope this helps! Let us know if you need anything else.

This does not answer the question which is “how can my partner and I access each others playlists when logged into our own accounts but with a duo membership

Hey there @Skipper6,

Thanks for your reply here.

In this case, we'd like to add some insights. Keep in mind the accounts that make part of a Duo plan are independent of one another. This means that you share your subscription plan, not the account per se. The important thing to remember is that sharing a Duo plan does not give access to the account or playlists of the other member of the plan.

In that sense, there's no way to access each other's playlists, rather than share them. For that, you can:

  • Share the respective links to the playlists. You can do that by following these steps.
  • Add the playlists to your profiles, so when you access them, you can see the playlists attached there. For this, you'll need to make the according playlists public by going to its three-dot menu and select the Make public option. After that, you can see and select the Add to profile option from that same menu.

There are other ways to share a playlist within, such as creating a Blend or a collaborative playlist:

  • Blends are shared playlists that combine the music you and others listen to. You can learn how to create in this article.
  • A Collaborative playlist lets you or your friends add, remove, and reorder tracks. You can learn how this works in this article.

Perhaps you were referring to one of those options. These kinds of playlist are easily accessible in the library for the users that make part of it once it's saved.

Hope this clears things up. If you have any questions or need a hand with anything else, we're always a post away.
