Two devices playing at same time with Duos, right?

Two devices playing at same time with Duos, right?

I purchased a Duos subscription a while back and never made use of it. I'd like to now. I often play music from my Mac desktop, and from my Echo. Wife commonly wants to play music from the Echo, and I do from the Mac, and of course at the same times...

Can't this be done with Duos?

Or, is Duos just a way for me to give her her own login so she plays, under that login, on her own device(s)? If this is true, I guess I should sign myself out of my Echo and use her new login?

Sorry. Confused.

Hi @thisismetcalf,

Thanks for posting in the Spotify Community!

Premium Duo is a discount plan for two people living at the same address, each with their own Spotify account; you can read about how to invite the other person to your Premium Duo plan in this support article.

And to answer your questions, each person in the Premium Duo plan has their own Spotify account, so they are able to play music while logged into their account on one device, at the same time as the other member of the plan is playing music while logged in to their account on a different device.

For the Echo, it’s not possible to link more than one Spotify account to the same Amazon account. For this reason, the other person would need to have their own Amazon account to which they can link their Spotify account to play music through the Echo.

Also, if you’d like to listen together to the same music at the same time from different devices (while each logged into your own account), you can try out the Group Session feature; though bear in mind that it’s still in Beta, meaning that it’s being tested and features could change.

Let me know if you have any other questions, and have a good day!

Hi @Tong199x,

Thanks for posting in the Spotify Community, and welcome! I hope you don't mind me replying in English.

I recommend first checking which Spotify account is linked to the Echo device, by following the steps in this support article.

Also, to make sure that both you and the other member of the Premium Duo plan are logged into your own Spotify accounts on your respective devices, you can verify the details of these Spotify accounts by each visiting your account page.

Additionally, if you’re the plan manager of the Premium Duo plan, you can check if you’ve successfully invited the other member by following these steps:

  1. Go to your account page
  2. Select Spotify Premium Duo in the menu on the left
  3. View People on this plan (where you have the option to invite or remove someone)

I hope this helps, and let me know if you have any other questions.

Have a good day!

Bro Spotify Duo is such BS! Bought it hoping my girl can make her own account and play music while I have my account and play different music but every time, I was cruising down the road playing music and she logged in to play something then it stopped my music and played her music on her phone only. Then everything I look up is more misleading BS about Spotify Duo. Never purchasing again & now I am even reconsidering going to Apple Music.

Hi @12101531686,

Thanks for posting in the Spotify Community, and welcome!

Premium Duo allows both people to play music at the same time without interrupting each other, as they each have separate Spotify accounts. Keep in mind that two accounts are needed for Premium Duo to work as expected, with each user logged in to their individual account with a separate email address and password.

I suggest checking which Spotify accounts you’re both logged in to, to ensure that you’re logging into the right ones (you can verify the account details by visiting your account page).

Hi all, I dont know if this will be seen or not, My wife and I are the only 2 living at our address and we have just the one mobile phone. I have set up the premium duo with this phone and the 2

accounts appear separately and apparently correctly on the spotify account page,,,, but when google assist is asked to play on either of our 2 units the other speaker is shut down. I can not find a clear answer to the question,,,,, do you have to have separate phones to get duo working independantly on the 2 different speakers at the same time? We have 1 in the lounge, and the other in the bedroom. And yes, the 2 entries on google home app have individual emails and passwords and are same address verified. Does anyone know for certain the answer please. TY in advance.

Hi @kiwiwal,

Thanks for posting in the Spotify Community, and welcome!

If you log in on your Google Home or Google Nest devices themselves with your Spotify accounts, you should be able to play two streams of music at the same time; this will even work with one speaker that has this option.

You can also read more about how to log in on Spotify to Google Home or Google Nest devices in this support article

Note that if you’re instead using Spotify Connect to connect to your Google Home or Google Nest speakers, you would need two phones with which to log on with the two Spotify accounts this way.

Hi again @kiwiwal,

I also wanted to clarify that you'll still need to connect your Spotify account to a separate Google Home account in order to use it on the other speaker with voice commands.

I hope you’ll find this useful, and let me know if you have any other questions.

Hi, you keep repeating the same answer but it doesn’t solve the problem that we have two separate accounts registered and setup under Spotify duo but we can’t listen to separate music via each account, it just plays what the other is listening to. Is there a setting to check? Please answer the question rather than refer to pages which don’t help.

Hi @Edr1984,

Thanks for posting in the Spotify Community, and welcome!

I recommend checking if each person on your Premium Duo plan has a different username and profile picture showing on the app, in order to ensure that you’re both logged in to the right Spotify accounts.

Also, can you let me know if you’re using an Alexa or Google Home at all, or on which devices you’re experiencing this issue?

I look forward to your reply, and let me know if you have any other questions.

Have a good day!

Me and my partner used the same Spotify account for a while and both have playlists on this account. We realised we both want to be able to listen to different things at the same time so I signed up to Duo  and sent her the invite.
she has logged in but can’t access her playlists from the original account ( my account).  Does she have to start building her own playlists again or is there a way she can access the playlists on my account?  Why isn’t this easier/ the instructions clearer??

Hi @DavidMeredith,

Thanks for posting in the Spotify Community, and welcome!

One way that your partner can access the playlists that she created on your account is if you share the playlists with her (following these steps), so that she can save them to her own Spotify account to listen to. However, if your partner would still like to be able to edit the playlists that she created on your account, I suggest that you make these playlists collaborative as well; you can invite your partner as a collaborator to the playlists by following the steps in this support article

Alternatively, if you’d prefer not to make the playlists collaborative, your partner can copy each of her playlists from your account to new playlists on her account by following the steps in this FAQ article. Note that this process needs to be done on the desktop app, and not on a mobile device.

Let me know if you have any other questions, and have a good day!
