Cannot find artists if I am not following them

When this god-awful update happened last year, I could still find artists I wasn't following by typing them in to the "filter" bar on my Artists page. This was if I like 5 songs by an artist, but don't feel like following them, I could still just pull up those 5 songs. 

Over the last few months, that feature has been devolving (fewer and fewer artists showing up) and has pretty much reached the point where it just doesn't work. There's also no recommended artists anymore. The only way to isolate songs I like by an artist I don't follow is to search their name in my Liked Songs list. Is this happening to everyone and can I fix it?

On a related note, when are they going to get rid of this new interface? I don't know a single person that likes it.
