My Question or Issue
For the past two weeks, I have noticed that my Daily Mixes have essentially stopped updating. My listening preferences are usually Movie Soundtracks, 80s-90s music, Christian/Worship. I have not stopped any of my normal listening patterns when this began nor during I encountered this. The lists will be about 90/10 (90% same tracks with 10% of newer tracks thrown in). The tracks rarely change order as well. I also noticed that the lists would previously "shuffle" between my music preferences: if I listen to more movie soundtracks for the week, I would sometimes have 1-3 of my daily mixes show movie soundtracks. This is simply not the case any more.
I have looked through previous threads and followed the recommendations I saw there: clearing the cache when listening on iPhone, not listening to a Daily Mix as my "last list" played with an eight-hour gap and none have worked so far.
Any thoughts on what I can do to correct this? I have previously liked the way the Daily Mixes would shuffle.
Hi everyone,
Thank you for the inputs so far.
It's important to note that near 75% of the content in your Daily Mixes should already be familiar to you, as their purpose is to focus primarily on the stuff you enjoy, with some occasional additions recommended by the app based on your taste. Discover Weekly and Release Radar are more oriented towards exploring new music.
Daily Mixes should update daily, however, keep in mind that the changes within these playlists may be subtle, such as the order of the playlist shuffling, or a track or two being replaced with another, so it may not be easy to tell at first glance. Something you can try is to download one of your Daily Mixes for offline listening, then set the app to Offline mode. On the next day, turn off Offline mode to see if the playlist would refresh.
You can also check out the Picked just for You playlists if you're looking for new recommendations on Spotify. You can access them by typing picked for you in the Search bar and filtering out the results so that only Playlists would appear.
Hope this clears things up. Take care.
Completely agree. I’m about to stop my premium subscription so I can avoid hating all the songs I used to like. The repetitive nature reminds me of why I always hated pop radio. I had a daily playlist repeating the same ~10 songs the other day for about 3 days and it’s pushing me to start listening to Apple Music instead.
The problem is clearly in how the app is picking (or rather, not picking) songs to add to the daily playlist. I get wanting the majority to be familiar artists, and I agree, but having them be the same songs is killing me. I’m getting some instances where I hear the same song over and over but I know that artist has like 7 albums in their discography, so why the repetition? And I’ll say it again - I’m getting tired of hearing songs from artists I couldn’t even name because they’re being played that often. I listen(ed) to Spotify for up to probably 8 hours/day and jump from daily playlists to release radar to discover weekly and then various artist radios across several devices.
It’s the Spotify curated playlists that seems to be the most issue, like I posted earlier. The 70’s Soul Classics, Soul Chillout, All Out 70’s are just a few. They have not updated in weeks. Thank you
Same here. Done everything told to do by customer support and no change. Going back to non premium.
I'm repeating the same things said above. Maybe if we do it enough, Spotify will get annoyed with us.
All jokes aside, my biggest complaint is that I can have 5-6 albums from one artist liked and downloaded but yet one song from only one album gets played in my Daily Mix. Its like a self fulfilling prophecy, "that song has the most plays therefore that song must be the one that you want to hear". In reality, that song has the most plays because the algorithm keeps forcing it down peoples throats.
I cant put an exact date on when this started happening to the Daily Mixes but I know I have noticed it becoming increasingly worse over the past year.
One suggestion I keep seeing is to dislike the song. Well, can someone please explain why if I dislike a song on mobile, then it still shows up in my playlists on desktop? See my attachments.
Mobile: iPhone 13 ProMax, ios 15.6.1
Desktop: Alienware M15 R6, Windows 10 v 19044.1889
This response is terrible customer service. A simple search in your own support website will show you how widespread this issue is. Get this prioritized to be fixed. It’s a major issue!
100% with everyone on this, I love Spotify and the daily mixes but this has been a massive issue for a while now. I probably have about a thousand artists with a million songs in my library, they’re there for a reason so play me them!!
I've also been experiencing the same issue across all my devices for several weeks. Android and Windows app as well as web versions are affected, and it's not due to listening to too narrow a range of music for there to be enough data in the system as I am regularly using my account to listen to artists elsewhere on Spotify (not in private mode).
PLEASE FIX!
this has been ongoing for me as well - for months. Started using Apple Music over the weekend and thinking of cancelling premium subscription because I'm sick of the same music! I liked Spotify for the fact that I got a lot of new music from them - that's not happening and the lack of response from them to recognize and prioritize this issue is super disappointing.
Mine have completely stopped updating, for weeks now. The "tech support" person (they seemed to have no tech knowledge whatsoever, as does every Spotify support person I speak with--they are basically just trained to tell you to reinstall the app) I spoke with told me I have been using Spotify only once a month and hadn't logged in since July, so it wasn't getting new information to update with (I use the desktop version--and only the desktop version--every day for hours, was literally listening to it as I spoke to him, and listen to a wide variety of music; just a couple of weeks ago, they were updating every day, dynamically, for years). As an experiment, I listened to nothing but blues and country for days, and liked a bunch of unusual genres of music, and they are still exactly the same. I have avoided every artist on every one of those playlists like the plague. NOTHING. Even the artist on the cover is the exact same. His suggestion was to delete my account and start a new one with the same email, and he could move my playlists and liked songs over, which obviously does not get at the root problem. This is basically just a melodramatic way to delete my listening history. *I would also note that my Discover Weekly, Release Radar, AND MY ON REPEAT all update, so obviously SOME information is getting to their servers about my listening habits. The bug is with the Daily Mixes specifically rather than the users and their accounts, period.
However, they are completely unwilling to ever acknowledge when a problem is on their end, so I imagine this will never get fixed. They really don't give a damn, honestly. I have never spoken with someone who sounded even remotely competent or who was able to do anything except delete my account, or ask me to reinstall. They're just not willing to spend the money on people who can actually fix problems, is how it appears to me from every single tech support experience I have ever had with Spotify. And it's always something with this app.
THIS THIS THIS - I have done everything - deleting, re-installing, updating, listening to other genres, etc. NOTHING HAS CHANGED. This has been an ongoing issue for years. This is the second time it has happened to me! Like user fixthescroll, my Discover and Release Radar all update. **bleep**, even Moody mix does. Everything but my Daily Mixes - which I really enjoyed and made things easy and fun. Not so much anymore. Like others have contemplated Apple Music - I have been premium family subscriber for 3 years. This is so annoying that I am looking at other options - even Tidal. Can you PLEASE fix this, Spotify, so that we can all just continue to listen?
not sure if i tagged @Alex
Just an update that nothing has updated. Still the exact same songs on every playlist, in the same order, all the way down to the same artist being featured on the cover of the Daily Mix. They are not budging, and I listen to all kinds of different stuff every day. I have specifically NOT been listening to those playlists (or even the artists on those playlists for the most part). Nada. That Spotify continues to act that this is a problem with individual accounts is so maddening that it makes me want to stop giving them my money because, honestly, they're gaslighting us about this so they don't have to deal with it. It's BS.
The algorithm they use is **bleep**ed and they do see it as that so they're unwilling to do anything about it until they do the best bet is sticking your liked songs on shuffle tbh they think its our devices thats the problem when it has nothing to do with our device but instead they're broken algorithm that they need to completely abandon n start again as its an embarrassment to them to sit on they're arses n do **bleep** all n blame us for they're failing service not like i haven't noticed the lack of responsibility in all big companies like this it's like once they become big they turn into a 5 yr old unable to do the job they supposed to n not taking any responsibility for it
Same here. I listen on multiple devices. I like songs all the time. I create new playlists all the time. My Daily Mixes haven't changed in months. If it's a "daily" mix, regardless of my behavior, it should be able to create a new 90-minute mix with the hundreds of thousands of songs in my playlists and years of activity.
Yeah, have a read of this sad thread to find out why disliking a song is not actually disliking a song:
It's almost like they have no idea what they're doing...
Coming here to say that there are no update whatsoever on this topic. I've had the same problem and after clearing the cache on all my devices, reinstalling the app, nothing changes. It's really annoying as the idea was great but ends in the limbo.
Have the same problem. Daily mixes are not updated anymore. Started weeks ago. I think I will cancel my subscription.
Any chance of having a button to ‘refresh’ all daily mixes? I would press it once a day..
PLEASE help resolve this long-pending issue. It's so painful. My Daily Mix playlists have gotten never updated since first created, no matter what I did.
This is interesting. No matter what playlist I listen to, I listen in shuffle mode. So if there are days where all Spotify does is change the order of a playlist... well that's a waste of energy and code.
My library has hundreds of thousands of songs. I have at least 25 playlists today that max out at 10k songs. At the very least, Spotify should be able to find something new to swap out every few days.
If all you're looking for is new songs I might "like", well, I'm not a song "liker". Only time I use the like button is when I'm too busy and I just want to flag a song to check out the artist later. Then I'll check out the artist, remove the like, and add the artist to one of my other playlists.
I would say your algorithm needs to be able to detect that it hasn't made any changes and at the very least dig into a user's stored playlists and do some random song selection to keep the Daily Mixes fresh.
