Folder order of "custom" keeps changing back to "recent"

Solved!

Folder order of "custom" keeps changing back to "recent"

My Question or Issue

I did a reinstall on Spotify today (vsn 8.9.50.552) because my desktop changes weren't sinking to my mobile. Now my folders are updated but I like to listen to them in "custom" order. Everytime a song ends and I go back to the list it shows the songs in "recent" order and I have to select "custom" again.

Is there a way to make it remember my last setting (or have the default as "custom")?

Hey there @LLR,

Thanks for all additional info!

Just to make sure we cover all bases, could you double-check the playlist filters you've set in Your Library? You can do so by following these steps:

  1. In Your Library, select the Playlists filter.
  2. Tap the Sort arrows to change how the items are listed.

Make sure that your playlists are sorted by Custom Order there, as the playlists in your folders should be displayed in the same way as that setting.

Hope this helps and keep us posted!

Hey there @LLR,

Thanks for reaching out!

Just to check, do you notice any difference after clearing stored cache? After it's done, make sure to log out from the app and back in again twice in a row. As odd as this may sound, completing these steps should resync the account info.

Shouldn't that do the trick, can you send us some more details on when this happens? For example, does it reset when you exit a playlist and go back to the folder overview? Also, are you experiencing the same thing on any other devices that you use Spotify on?

Feel free to send us a video showing how things look from your end, so that we can have a look as well. Should the files be too large to attach here in the Community, you can send them to us as unlisted YouTube videos or via Google Drive.

Let us know how it goes.

My replies seem to vanish when posting on the page directly? Anyway....

I have a second Android phone (Realme) and the Folders work perfectly
there. I've cleared the cache, logged out and in twice on my Oppo but it
still doesn't work.

The way it "works"
1) open Folder to see Playlists
2) set sort to "Custom Order"
3) select Playlist and listen to it
4) return to Folder (either back on the phone or back on Spotify, both
behave the same)
5) see Playlists so you can select the next

At 5) the way it *should *work (and does work on my Realme) is the
Playlists you see are still in custom order and the Playlist you most
recently selected is visible on the screen (making it VERY easy to select
the next Playlist to listen to and so on)

At 5) the way it *is *"working" on my Oppo is the Playlists are now in
"Recent" order with the Playlist you most recently selected at the top of
the list, and you've moved to the top of the list on the display. If you
resort (AGAIN) you'll be at the top of the list so you have to scroll down
to find your custom ordered place in the list.

This makes working your way through a Folder in the order you've decided
very difficult.

Hopefully you've got some ideas to fix this.

Regards,
Laura

Thank you, that fixed it. I had no idea there was an overarching filter and
I have no idea how it was changed to "recents" but it's now "custom order"!

We can close this issue - problem sorted 🙂
