My Question or Issue

I have some local files that I have on my laptop and I managed to get them in the playlist I want. However, I cannot play these songs on my iPhone despite having the playlist downloaded on both devices. My Spotify app says to "Mark the playlist containing this song for Offline Sync" but I cannot find this option anywhere. I have googled this issue a lot but nothing is working and there are no updated solutions that I can find.

Hey @jkelly37 and @avins0114,

Thanks for searching for the answer you need here!

We hope you don’t mind us replying now as we just stumbled upon this thread. If you're still experiencing difficulties with your local files, make sure to go into the setting on your iPhone devices, scroll down to local files and enable desktop sync. Afterwards you should be able to download your songs using the steps in this guide.

If that doesn't do the trick, it's a good idea to delete the playlists with local files and start the whole process from scratch. If the problem persists, we'd appreciate a couple of screenshots of how the playlists appear on your desktop and smartphone. just make sure to hide any private or sensitive info.

Hope you find this useful. Keep us posted how you get on.

Hey @Tic01

Thanks for getting back to us.

Just to make sure, have you tried reinstalling the app on your devices following these specific steps?

On another note, we suggest that you check the following info on your devices:

  • There’s enough free space on your devices' memory (we recommend at least 1GB)
  • You have the latest version of the Spotify app installed (on all devices)
  • Your devices' firmware is up-to-date
  • You can only download music and podcasts to a maximum of 5 separate devices for a maximum of 10,000 songs per device
  • Spotify is set as an exception in any firewall or internet security program
  • Spotify is set as an exception for any cache clearing or app optimization apps on your devices

Keep us posted on how it goes.

I'm having this exact same issue, it is ridiculous. I have local network switched to on, I have downloaded both on PC and on mobile, I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling, I have tried opening and closing, I have all the right local files settings on on both devices. It still won't work. This is infuriating.

Hi folks,

As mentioned previously by @Kiril, some changes to how local files are handled were introduced in July. Currently it's no longer possible to wirelessly sync local files from your PC to your phone. Instead, the files have to be manually imported on the phone in order to be played by Spotify.

More info can be found in this article.

Hope this clears things up. Take care.

I am still having the same problem with one playlist yet the other one won’t download

Also when I shared the file with a friend he got the same message.

He has the original files on his phone.

so frustrating 🙈

Try going to the app and allowing local files in settings. U have to allow local files to be accessed in the Spotify iOS app

Thank you, you are a gift, finally a simple solution.

i have done literally everything in this thread and it still will not work i just want to listen to my music maannnnn

Exactly the same here, it plays on my laptop and shows on my iPhone but it won’t let me play it

still doesnt work, its on the same wifi, with premium. with show local files on on both my phone and laptop, and it doesnt give me the option to turn on "sync" it doesnt let me turn any playlist offline, downloading the playlist doesnt work either nothing works and ive been trying for the last 4 hours

I converted the song from mpeg format to mp3 and finally got it to sync to my iPhone.

Before the conversion, the song could only be played on my MacBook Pro but always failed to sync to my iPhone. No error, just that same unhelpful message that everyone saw -- "mark playlist for offline sync blah blah blah".

How do I convert the songs from WAV to mp3

On MacBook btw

You have left us for 2 years without a resolution to this issue, I've attempted all of you and your colleagues suggestions yet none of them work. This is a spotify premium feature, why does it not work, and if it does, why is it extremely difficult to access??
