Playing a different track than the one displayed

Playing a different track than the one displayed

Hi,

I am newbie to this app and there is something I do not get.

I play jazz piano and I practice specific tunes (for example Beatiful Love) and I want to listen to various versions of the standard.

I search the correspding tracks (say Track: Beatiful Love) and get a list of a dozen tracks.

when I tap a track (for example Beatiful Love by Bill Evans), I hear another tune!

WHat's the trick?

Hey there @APoliade! 👋

Thanks for reaching out, and welcome to Spotify Community!

From what you described, it sounds like you might be using a Free account on a mobile device. If that’s the case, the behavior you're seeing could actually be expected. Let me explain a bit how it works:

  • On mobile with a Free account, you won’t be able to play specific songs on demand. Instead, tapping a track usually starts a radio based on that song, which might be why you’re hearing something different from what you expected.

  • You can still listen to your Liked Songs and playlists you’ve created, just keep in mind they’ll play in shuffle mode.

  • You can also pick and play tracks from most playlists in the Made for You section.

  • If you're on a computer (using the desktop app or web player), the experience is a bit different and gives more flexibility.

If you ever decide to go Premium, you’d be able to play specific songs anytime, but even with a Free account, there’s still a lot to enjoy.

Hope this clears things up a bit! Let me know if you have more questions.
