Playlist Suffle: Songs Disappear in Queue

Playlist Suffle: Songs Disappear in Queue

  • Plan

Device

Samsung Note20 5G

I put my playlist on shuffle and then i arrange songs via BPM. Its a mental excercise for me.

However, when the App is on pause, the songs i have moved around disappear from my queue. Only songs that remain are the songs i didn't rearrange.

I have done a clean reinstall over 20 times and this has been a problem for over a month now.  I have also copied my playlist to a new one and the problem still happens.

Hey @Moonxild,

Sorry to see you've been having issues with your queue!

Could you let us know if the described behaviour occurs with only one specific playlist or regardless of what playlist is selected? We'd also like to know if you're re-arranging the songs within the playlist itself or within the queue and if you're pausing the playback before or while re-arranging them 🙂

If you happen to have access to another Premium account via a friend or relative, you can also make your playlist public in order to try copying it from the second account. Once copied, you can test if the same behaviour would be observed on the new account as well.

Many thanks! We'll be on the lookout for your reply 🙌🏼

Hi,

Yes it does occur on other playlists as well. As for your questions:

I rearrange the song in the queue and not the playlist.

Both. I rearrange the songs both when it's paused and playing.

I don't have access to another account. Should I just create another account? It would be on the same device though.

Hey @Moonxild,

Thanks for the clarification!

No need to create a new account, no worries. We tried reproducing this on our end following what you described, but everything was in order. So it'd be great if you can make a screen recording of what happens when you try to rearrange the songs in the queue and we can have a closer look. If the file is too large to attach, you can upload it to Google Drive (make sure to allow general access to the file) or as an unlisted YouTube video.

Can you also check what version of the app you're running and let us know? If you happen to have another device available, such as a PC or another phone, you can give this a go there to see if you get the same behavior.

Keep us posted.

Hi,

This appears to have been resolved. But as of the update from a few days ago the issue came up again!

Please see attached. This was from the previous occurrence that's happening again after the last update.

Hey @Moonxild,

Thanks for the videos.

I've checked both but could notice the issue you've described. Can you send us a new one showing the moment where the tracks disappear from the queue?

Appreciate your cooperation!

Hi,

I attached two photos that just happened within the last hour. If you scroll through the thread prior to this, I kindly explained in detail what is happening.

The photo with the red square shows the songs I moved in my playlist queue initially. I stopped Spotify for several minutes. The second picture shows the songs I moved have disappeared.

Yes to all the questions about clean reinstall and restarting my phone

Hey @Moonxild,

Thank you for keeping in contact and for the shared info.

We appreciate all the troubleshooting you've done so far. To continue investigating this, would you mind confirming if you're closing the app or leaving it in the background when it takes the songs away from the queue? If so, it could be related to some battery optimization features of your mobile device. So in this case, we'd recommend going to your phone settings and looking for the "battery optimization" feature. Make sure Spotify has all permission and is unrestricted from the battery saver.

If the issue persists, would you mind checking on a different device (using your own account) to see if it makes any difference? If you don't have another one available, you can borrow one from a friend or family member to test it out.

Lastly, include in your next response the OS version of your device, along with the Spotify version you're currently running to continue investigating the case.

We'll be on the lookout.

Hi. I went ahead and switched it to Unrestricted and will test and see if that solves the issue.

So the songs disappear when I leave the app in the background.  As for the infor.ation you're asking about:

Spotify 9.0.50.416

Android Version 13

One UI 5.1

Hi,

I changed the Battery Optimization to unlimited and it worked for a little bit. However, when I let the app go idle for a longer period of time, the problem still persists.

It's really quite bothersome for me.

Hey @OscarDC,

Thank you for your message.

If the issue was slightly fixed, it's possible that it's related to phone restrictions instead of an issue with Spotify. So to continue checking on this, some Android devices have an option to clear cache automatically every "x" hours, would you mind checking if you have that option active? It's commonly located on your phone Settings > Battery saver > Additional features > Clear cache when device is locked. Make sure it's set to "Never".

Also, would you happen to try it on a different mobile device with your own account? If not, we'd recommend giving it a try to see if it makes any difference. Keep in mind that the device doesn't need to be yours, you can borrow one from a relative to test it.  This will help us understand if it could be device-related or not.

Hope this helps. Keep us posted
