My Question or Issue

I have “download over cellular” turned off for my Spotify and have, instead, saved many playlists as downloaded in my library. Some are static, but many are my Daily Mix, Release Radar, and similar.

The problem arises in that Spotify seems smart enough on wifi to notice that these playlists have updated… but then fails to download the new versions. As a result, when I open the app away from wifi, I’m left with playlists that are basically unplayable: 75% or more of the content is not downloaded, showing greyed out. Of course, by then it’s too late: I’m offline and was counting on my downloaded playlists, which are now unusable.

So, how can I get Spotify to start behaving a little smarter, either by (a) not updating /only/ the track list or (b) downloading the tracks too when it’s on wifi?

Hi @ericbkennedy!

Could you confirm that Spotify is allowed to access your local network? You check that in your iPhone's Settings > Privacy > Local Network. Make sure also that the Background App Refresh for the app is turned on.

If you're using any battery optimization settings, you can either add Spotify as an exception, so that its performance won't be hindered, or simply disable it temporarily.

Try out these steps, then redownload your playlist to see if that did the trick. Let us know how it goes.

Cheers!
