Playlist is missing over half of its songs

I have a playlist that is over 24 hours long, and has about 500 songs on it. I went to listen to it just now, and there are only 30 songs and it says it's an hour and 35 minutes? I don't understand what the deal is.

I just looked at some other playlists and they all have the same problem, all of them are getting cut off at 30 songs. This is incredibly annoying as I have spent a long time making these playlists. Can anyone help?

Hi there @gabbythebat,

Thanks for reaching out. Could you please provide us the following:

  • Is this on all devices or only on specific one(s)? How does it look on the webplayer?
  • When did this start happening?
  • Does this affect playlists by other people and/or playlists generated for you by Spotify, or are only your own playlists affected?
  • Screenshots or a video of the behaviour

With this information, we’d be happy to investigate.

Keep us posted.

I can't download the app on my phone, so it's just the web player. I checked it on someone else's phone who has the app and the songs were all there. It's also fine on the computer web player

It started when I first posted this, I've never seen it before that

It affects all the playlists I look at on my phone

I also put the playlist on shuffle just to test it and it still played the songs, even though they didn't show up

Hi @gabbythebat,

Thanks for the reply. So how and on what device exactly are you using Spotify? Do you use the web version on the aforementioned Moto G Stylus? And why are you not able to download the app on it?

Let us know how it goes.

Gabby - I have the same problem!! spent a long time on hold with Spotify chat - it was never resolved. Very frustrating. This looks like it is a common problem I hope Spotify can explain how and why it occurred.

Hey @LoLo61,

Thanks for posting in the thread!

Could you give us some more details, so that we can get a better understanding of the situation? The more info we have, the better. For example, let us know:

  • If this is happening across devices, or if it's specifically how the playlist(s) look in the Web Player on a phone.
  • Is it a specific playlist or multiple ones?
  • Have you performed any troubleshooting steps so far (logging out, reinstall etc.)?
  • If it's a public playlist for example, how does it look like if someone else opens it on their device?

We'll be on the lookout for your response.

Hi, it went from roughly 1400 songs to 710. It is this way on my phone, on my mac and when a friend accessed it since it is public. I have logged out, and back in - no change.  When a playlist is public, do others have the ability to delete some of your songs?

Thanks for the response and info, @LoLo61

That's odd as playlists shouldn't just lose tracks and there is a few ways that this could have happened.

First, to answer your question, if the playlist is set to public, it can be viewed by other users, but they can't take any action in editing it. You can read more about playlist privacy here. However, in order for other users to be able to make changes, the playlist has to be made Collaborative (others need to be invited as collaborators).

Now when it comes to your playlist losing half of the tracks, did you by any chance notice when this happened and if it was after something specific (an update for example or you changing the playlist privacy)? I recommend removing any third party apps' access to Spotify from the Account Page here to make sure they aren't causing any changes.

Another possibility is for these songs not to be available in your region any longer. Could you try searching for some of the missing content if you're able to find the tracks on Spotify? You can even go to Settings > Content and display > toggle on Show unplayable songs. When this setting is active, it will show all the songs on your mobile device, but the app will only play the available ones.

Keep us posted.
