Why doesn’t search function in normal playlists work like it does in Liked Songs playlist. What I mean is, if you search in Liked Songs for example an artist and click on one of searched songs, the other songs of that artist will automatically be added to queue.
This is how it looks when I search for artist "Boombox Cartel" in Liked Songs playlist and play a song.
But when you do it in normal playlist, when you click searched song then next song will be random and not the song of artist you searched.
This is how it looks when I search for artist "Boombox Cartel" in normal playlist and play a song.
This problem is only on android and iOS, but on windows it works perfectly.
Am I doing something wrong or you have the same problem?

My Question or Issue
Same issue here on android. If I type in, say, Korn, in my Liked Songs Playlist and click a result, it should play ONLY Korn songs or songs with the word Korn in the title. This is how it typically behaves. But for some reason Spotify seems to break this feature a couple times a year on either desktop or mobile. No amount of cache clearing, data clearing, reboots, or reinstalls, or making sure the app is updated (it always is already) have ever fixed it. The issue is typically "automagically" fixed when I pick up the next Spotify up several weeks later. Android 14, ONEUI 6.1, s23+, Spotify 9.0.18.614
This started happening on my samsung 24 ultra, when I try searching for a specific artist or song from my liked songs, it will not play the songs from that one artist, it will only play the next song that was after that one it's like its not even recognizing that I only want to listen to songs from a specific artist in my liked songs and just playing them in order of how I added them to the liked songs, the scroll bar also doesn't work, I've tried clearing the cache, uninstalling and reinstalling but it doesn't work, I use premium and everything is up to date with versions it's extremely inconvenient to have a search bar that won't filter the liked song to only play the songs from a single artist. For example I search in my liked songs for Hollywood undead it should filter out all the other songs and only play Hollywood undead instead it will add other songs to the queue
Yeah I tried all the same stuff and no dice. Still broken after the most recent update too.
Yeah, uh, why did this break recently?

My Question or Issue
In the last month, when I play a song within a search inside a playlist or liked songs, the queue is populated by every song in the playlist instead of being refined to the search results. This has only resulted from searching through the Android mobile version, which works like normal on desktop.
The issue leads to extra steps to play a group of songs, like going to the artist's page or creating a new playlist, whereas it could be played within a search before. Images attached show the queue result of playing the same song though the same search, on Android compared to desktop
Hi Everyone. I just chatted with Spotify support. They confirmed this is an intentional change they made but said they at least added the issue to the board for product improvement discussions. I am copy pasting replies from Tier I and Specialist team.
"Testing new features helps us make Spotify even better, and we apologize if this temporarily affects your experience. Thank you for your understanding! We can't say if or when any specific features will be back. But as soon as we’ve got anything to announce, we’ll let everyone know via the Spotify Community: http://community.spotify.com/. Thanks again for reaching out to us! If there’s anything else, we’re happy to help."
"Yes, actually, I just reviewed the previous conversation you had with us and I believe the advisor who assisted you managed to put your thoughts on board. Right now, as for the idea posted on the Community page, we don't have any updates yet on hand but surely, the moderators there will send a real-time update if there's any.
Like what has been tried to establish earlier, we're always testing things by adding or removing features to make Spotify better overall. We can't say yet when a specific feature will be available but no worries, I'll surely put your thought on board as it is something that our Products Team talk about. Your voice will be heard on those discussions!"
And to anyone from the Spotify team reading this, I believe the issue now impacts Liked Songs library as well, not just other playlists as the original post described. This means that, if this method was your primary mode of listening to music (it was) you'd now have to go manually create a new Playlist each time you want to listen to a different artist. We would not want to go to the artist page to listen... What if we only like five songs from a specific artist? We're not trying to listen to their entire discography, the ask is just for a simple filter function in our library of liked songs, and it's kind of a no brainer to have that. I'm being told it was removed on purpose but to be honest I can't imagine what the biz justification for that would be? What would possibly be the reasoning to remove a basic feature like this? This makes the existing product worse while adding nothing new to compensate and I can only suspect that in actuality it's a mistake.

Yep, experiencing same problem since almost a month. The problem's still there in the latest update.
Also I am not facing this problem on my Windows PC.
Hey folks,
Thank you for your patience.
We've received confirmation from internal teams that this behavior should be fixed by now in the latest version of the app. If you still have any issues with the search function, we'd recommend updating your app to its latest version or even performing a clean reinstall to get rid of any cache that might be causing trouble.
Thanks again for your reports. If anything else comes up, don't hesitate to ask.
Can confirm it is now working on my end! Thanks for the update and I apologize for my earlier crabbiness. Cheers!
1. When I open my favorite songs in Windows Desktop App, search for one artist and then press play only the search results are played. That is amazing.
2. When I do the same in the Android app, the first song is from the searched artist, after that it uses the complete fav song list.
This worked since some time ago, why did it change? Please.
I hope, my description is accurate and understandable.
I reinstalled Spotify and this is still not working. Any more help to offer or do I have to live with that?
Hey, @fladenbrot320,
Thanks for joining the thread!
Something else you can do is log out and sign back in to Spotify twice in a row - this should trigger an internal resync of the app which might help here. If possible, try using your account on another mobile device to see if everything looks good there. You can also ask someone (a friend or a relative would do) to sign in on your phone to test if they'd experience the same behavior.
Let us know how it goes 👍
that helped, thanks.
