My Issue
There is this playlist I've been working on for about 50 hours how, perfecting the play order and stuff. I can't ever go to the song radio for any song on that playlist without it just giving me pretty much the same playlist, only shuffled. There will be a few songs not in the playlist, but they will only be from albums featuerd in the playlist. It's like Spotify has decided to never show me new music again in this genre. I know there is a LOT out there in this genre, but I'm being limited to just one tiny corner with no way out.
Sad to say this is still the case. I do, unfortunately, have the problem of having thousands of songs in my library, from hundreds of artists. Most of these are one-off songs I saved - but the radio issue still persists. I'd say a good 90% of the songs on any - any every - radio that I start are drawn straight from my own library. Most radios are filled with already-liked songs. If I'm looking for Limp Biskit songs (and similar), why would the radio play everybody but them, and why would it be filled with bands that are nothing like them?
This is really annoying behaviour from Spotify. I can remember a time where song radio worked as it should, but it seems those days are sadly gone...
Radio used to play songs similiar to the one you are playing. Now it just creates a list of other songs I liked. It's basically useless and the songs are not even remotely in the same genre 😞
How do you guys not test features before updating? Guess I'll switch to Apple Music if this continues.

My Question or Issue
Same thing has been happening to me today. In the morning I played hip hop genre(Kendrick's songs like 5 of them) and now if I try to play song of any genre, it just lists the radio to a whole different genre which is hip hop and all of them containing Kendrick's songs. I think the recommendation algorithm is broken.
I just want to reinforce my frustrations with radio too. It’s getting ridiculous. The best thing about the feature was finding new music and now it doesn’t do that…the majority of tracks are ones I already have saved. SO FRUSTRATING!!!!
I came here with the exact same problem, sad to see there aren't any good options for this.
I'll offer this up: use Pandora for this kind of thing, it works really well. It's unlikely to make a material impact, but maybe if enough people stop using Spotify's radio functionality, they'll notice and look for ways to improve the feature.
So I recently decided to try Spotify because they gave me 3 months of premium free. I come from originally using Pandora and then switching to SoundCloud because the audio quality was much better. The only issue with SoundCloud is i can't always find songs in looking for because not every artist is on it or if they are it's missing part of their catalog for whatever reason.
So I've been trying Spotify for about a month now and while I do really enjoy the sound quality and selection the radio function is garbage. It forced me to select 3 artists when joining and only plays stuff from them or really close to them and won't branch out.
I'll find a song that's nothing like anything I selected, start song radio and it plays that one song and then immediately starts playing all the stuff is already shoved at me, even though it's not even close to the new song's genre. Which is the entire point of a radio function on these apps. To listen to similar artists and songs to the SONG YOU MADE THE RADIO FROM not what you already liked.
This makes no sense. Sadly searching online has brought me here and I'm really sad that this is just how it works. I guess I'm going back to SoundCloud.
I had this issue in spring '23. I had a very carefully curated playlist of similar-sounding songs and after listening to it for a while Spotify seemed to think I wanted the songs on that playlist in at least one daily mix everyday, and in recommended songs that play after playlists end, AND in song radios. I don't understand how it's still evidently completely unclear to Spotify staff that the user base absolutely detests this feature.
It's interesting that several users on this thread have attested to the fact that the radio feature used to work properly. Seems to be that implies Spotify chose to intentionally tamper with their own feature just to.... what? Ignore a whole community thread of issues very clearly stating they've had issues with song radios only populating songs they've ALREADY HEARD and then rather than trying to actually resolve the issue, give canned responses that contribute absolutely nothing to actually solving the problem.
You'd think a company like Spotify would be interested in listening to user feedback since it directly impacts their profit... All this is going to do is drive users away.
2025 and still the same problem, only I think it has even become worst. I don't hear even my own songs from old playlists, only the songs that I listen to at the moment. It's realy pissing me off.
I've read that deleting your cached files helps because the app prioritizes what's already downloaded (or what you've already listened to) than downloading something new from the servers.
