My Question or Issue

I have a free Spotify account and as far as I know, music can be played for free…and my location on the account is the same as where I am. So there is no location problem, but whenever I try to play a song, it says that “you have discovered a premium feature” and it doesn’t let me play any song, whether it’s from my playlist or not. I don’t understand that if location is not the problem, then why am I not able to play music.

Thank you for reaching out to the Community and welcome. 

 

This type of behavior happens when you're trying a Premium feature with a free account, such as turning off the Shuffle play, but if it's happening when you try to play a track, it's probably because of a discrepancy between your location and the country registered in your account. 

 

So first, we understand you've checked the country of your account previously, but to make sure we're on the same page, would you mind updating the country by following the steps mentioned in this article?

 

If the country matches with your current location, we'd also recommend turning OFF any VPN you may have active as it virtually changes your location and it affects the proper behavior of the app.

 

Lastly, we'd recommend performing a clean reinstall of the app on your device making sure you're installing the official version of the app from the Google Play Store, Apple Store or Microsoft Store, depending on your device.
