Unable to remove songs from collaborative playlist

Unable to remove songs from collaborative playlist

I've been trying to remove songs from a collaborative playlist that I have with my friend, however I'm unable to do so. I am currently using the Spotify desktop app and I have followed/liked the playlist. Although I can click and see the "Remove from playlist" button, but whenever I click that, the song just pops back. Any idea on why this is happening?

Hi everyone,

Thanks for your replies so far.

We can confirm that the way collaborative playlists work was changed recently. The playlist owner still has full control over the playlist and can add or remove tracks freely, but when it comes to collaborators, they can only remove the songs they've personally added. This is done to prevent the potential unwanted data loss within the playlist.

Hope this clears things up. The Community is always here if there's anything else you need assistance with.

Cheers!

my friend and I greatly relyed on this 😞 why remove this option? This is horrible. No way of knowing when my buddy has listening to my songs now. Very upsetting.

Since the ability for collaborators to delete songs was there previously, how about adding a toggle button to allow others to delete songs?  We use collaborative playlists at work for our huddle and now it's a burden for the owner of the playlist to delete songs when other team members are trusted to do so.

hi

i think you should allow to set adding & editing privileges for collaborative playlists (as in, i create a playlist, send it to some friends and grant them admin privileges, and so on).

we have a collab playlist that's been hijacked by effing bots (yeah, pesukone and the usual scumbags - why can't you just kick them off since they're bothering so many people?) and now, according to the new rules as i understand, we can't even remove that trash because of your "preventing loss of data" policy.

seriously... FIX THIS!

Hi there folks,

Hey @Sugarbug!

All collaborators should be able to freely edit the playlist's contents, i.e. add or remove tracks . This means that you, as a collaborator, can remove a track that another user had previously added. If, however, this isn't possible, please share a short screen recording which shows how things look on your end. That way we can get a clear understanding of what's happening when you try to remove a track from the collaborative playlist.

We'll be on the lookout for your reply.

Cheers!

Hey Yordan,

This seems to directly contradict what you had said on 3-4-22 about collaborators not being able to remove tracks:

Has this feature changed functionality again or was this a miscommunication? Just looking for clarification as this thread has mixed messaging and I am currently unable to remove songs added by the playlist creator in our collaborative playlist.

I understand changing the way collaborative playlists work to prevent data loss, but this completely broke the way I use them. I have a playlist that I specifically add songs to for my sister to listen to that I think she might like, and she was able to go through it when she had time and remove them as she listened to them. This is impossible now because only I can remove them, which makes the playlist useless. Don't really want to have to resort to texting a list of songs every time, but not really left with any other options. Really wish that y'all would make these changes optional, or add an alternative instead of breaking current behavior.

Is there any hope in restoring the delete function for users added to collaborative playlists? It kinda destroys the "collaboration" without the ability for everyone to edit the songs. Agreeing with the users in this thread who used collaborative playlists without issue before; you've made a previously useful feature WAY worse by prioritizing bot behavior over user behavior.

At least add an option to toggle edit permissions if you're worried about bot spamming. There feels like there are better options before completely removing the ability to edit a shared playlist...

My Question or Issue

My wife and I have a playlist together. It's supposed to be a "rotating playlist", so songs come and go. But I am unable to remove songs that were added by her. Each time I try to remove a song, it'll disappear for a second and then reappear immediately after.

This occurs on Android, ChromeOS (Android & browser), and via the Windows app.

This is still happening a year or so later, and artist called Opask joined my friends personal playlist with their personal account and added one of their songs and now we can’t remove it.

Same thing is happening to a playlist my friends and I started. The bots literally added the same songs like 20 times and every time I try to delete the song, it just pops back in. I also can't remove the bots from the playlist. I tried copying the playlist and removing the songs that way which works but would take a lot of time since it's much harder to tell which songs were added by the bots and which were added by friends. Spotify needs to make this easier to resolve.

Can you make it so people can just revert playlists to a previous version? That would fix all of this!

My playlist had hundreds of hours added to it and they deleted almost all the other songs I had before, no way to find them again.

Everything you've said about them not being able to delete things is untrue in practice.

I can't believe you can't even report accounts for spamming and scamming like this.

I had a scammer somehow join my family account and instead of letting me know you kicked my boyfriend off because he didn't update our address correctly in a week. You do have priorities and will take action apparently, just not against actual scammers!

I had a verified account add spam to my collaborative playlist and I can't even report their account.

Amazing!
