Unable to remove songs from collaborative playlist

Unable to remove songs from collaborative playlist

I've been trying to remove songs from a collaborative playlist that I have with my friend, however I'm unable to do so. I am currently using the Spotify desktop app and I have followed/liked the playlist. Although I can click and see the "Remove from playlist" button, but whenever I click that, the song just pops back. Any idea on why this is happening?

Hi everyone,

Thanks for your replies so far.

We can confirm that the way collaborative playlists work was changed recently. The playlist owner still has full control over the playlist and can add or remove tracks freely, but when it comes to collaborators, they can only remove the songs they've personally added. This is done to prevent the potential unwanted data loss within the playlist.

Hope this clears things up. The Community is always here if there's anything else you need assistance with.

Cheers!

These guys should get popped, but it looks like the Source is a user/producer/profile called Badenstock. We all need to report that one.

Finnish public broadcasting company YLE made an article on this Pesukone: https://yle.fi/uutiset/3-12229825

My translation of the article (main points):

"Badenstock CEO says that a good song alone is no longer enough (!!!!) but you also need to understand how the streaming service's algorithm brings new music to popular listening lists."

"CEO says it is often difficult to stand out in Spotify, and even good music might not bring the desired result. - We have tried a lot of different things to get success(!!!!)"

So they admit it!

THIS BADENSTOCK COMPANY IS A SCAM and their "artists" are breaking Spotify rules, since they use bots to spam people and to get "listeners" = people are listening to them maybe ONCE.

They have no real fans: they have 200 followers on Facebook and 99% of their Instagram followers are clearly bought bots!

Same thing has been happening to my collaborative playlists, it's starting to get really f**king annoying... I really don't understand that there aren't already restrictions in this feature where you can choose who you want to collaborate with so no other profiles can just randomly add their songs. I've voted for the idea 'limited editing access'. I hope this becomes Spotify's top prio to fix because it's affecting a lot of users and we're forced to turn this feature off if this keeps happening..

Here the links to the bot profiles, adding the same music as described in other posts:

The exact same bots added to some of my playlists and I’m so sick and tired or deleting them again and again, I’m ready to give up on Spotify and use another platform!

I feel so invaded and I can’t believe Spotify can’t do anything about it. If they can’t, then don’t offer the collab feature!

I was not aware that collaborative playlists were public. It defeats the entire purpose of a collaborative playlist. Yes, it's so invasive!

I like when somebody is adding songs to my collab playlist. I like to find new music.

This keeps happening to me, too. Even when I only share the link with my 2-3 other collaborators. It’s so frustrating bc it’s the same awful songs over and over.

Once someone knows the URL to your collaborative playlist, they can edit it. This was a change that Spotify made some time back and was not (IMO) well communicated that if a collaborative playlist was previously public, and then made into a collaborative playlist, then the playlist is visible on your profile. These scammers then scrape all of the URLs and start injecting their garbage. I have gone back and made all of my collaborative playlists private, but once they know the URL, it's too late. The only "solution" (hardly a solution IMO) is to make a new playlist, make it private, then make it collaborative, then copy/paste your songs from the old compromised playlist to the new one. Then the new URL is not known to the spammers and doesn't appear in your profile to be scraped/stolen by the spammers.

I would enjoy that too, if that was the purpose of the playlist. The playlists that these scammers are injecting their garbage into are meant to be private memories between my partner and me only. I am horrified not only that people can inject stuff into them, but that people can even read them. Such an invasion of privacy and trampling on my partner and my collective memories.

Is anyone experience an added nuisance here with spam accounts adding songs that cannot be removed from your playlist? As seen with the screenshot, I went to remove the offending post (and note, these are always the same songs/accounts), and immediately selecting remove song, the song reappears. How is this happening Spotify? Thank youScreen Shot 2022-02-28 at 10.20.45 AM.pngScreen Shot 2022-02-28 at 10.20.54 AM.png

This has started happening to me too! Artist that's added the most is Pesukone. Some of the playlists now won't even allow me to remove the songs. Every bot account is different so it doesn't matter if I block any of them, it's just happening again a few days later. This is infuriating. A playlist I've had with my girlfriend since we met 6 years ago is repeatedly getting hacked, and Spotify doesn't seem to care to do anything about it. None of the reporting features are remotely useful. I don't understand why I can't limit who can add to the playlist or why Spotify doesn't can this bogus bot artist.

Please help!

Hey guys!

The same is happening with my playlist and being spammed by the same artist!  Moreover, I cannot delete the song: as soon I'm deleting it appears again! It does not feel that Spotify takes it seriously!  This is very frustrating!

This is the link to profile https://open.spotify.com/user/315272j4t3byjntbov7nbfcbdg2q Is there any other information you'll need?

I'm having the same issue with this user:

https://open.spotify.com/user/3162fsf3xeingcovlbs5wluet7vu?si=ee7fdfe7776d4994

Every time I try to remove the song it gets automatically added again.  It's horribly annoying and the music is not my taste of the vibe of the playlist at all!!

The same bot/user mentioned in the post above has also added a song to a collaborative playlist of mine, and I'm unable to remove it. It is added back to the playlist instantly upon removal (or the bot has found a way to make it so songs can't be removed).

I’ve had this exact issue with this bot:

https://open.spotify.com/user/31gqrh4nausj5puvztvwoh4bm2cy?si=fjDfRy4bTj2rCp_bJJNjnA
It’s a Pesukone song. I’d rather not link the playlist since bots can apparently use those URLs.

This is consistently a problem with Pesukone. This has happened multiple times with other bots and the same artist on different playlists. The only difference is that this time, it gets added back as soon as I remove it.

Hey @sunflower123123,

Thanks for posting here.

It's a good idea to restart your device, log out and log back in again to see if that helps.

In case that doesn't make a difference, you can try logging in to your account on another device. Are there any changes?

Keep us posted.

My friend and I have the same problem on our two collaborative playlists. I can't remove songs from the collaborative playlist she created, and she can't remove songs from the collaborative playlist I created. Doesn't work on desktop nor mobile (android).

Me and my collegues face the same problem. We have a collaborate playlist where everyone can put their songs in during work. The list gets cleared at the start of every day. THat way, the ones that work that day can put their songs in. However, since a few days it has become impossible to remove any songs from the list. We already created another list which, unfortunately, faces the exact same problem now.

We have tried different devices, reïnstalled and updated spotify (if possible) but nobody is able to remove songs.

Edit: It turns out that everyone can only remove their own songs from the list, but not others.

Same here with my friend and I, we have a playlist where we add songs for the other to discover and once the other has listened to it and added the song or not, they delete it from the list. However it has become impossible for me to delete any song he puts on the list BUT he can remove my songs, I'm guessing because he created the playlist (?)
