Can't Load Songs from iPhone

I am trying to add a song to Spotify. I put it in a Music playlist on my Mac, which according to the website should have worked. I have enabled Local audio files. The hurdles to doing this seem unsurmountable. I sent myself the audio file in Messages and saved it. The phone seems to save it to the Music app. That is a local file, right? I also put it on my Mac's desktop and connected the devises via hotspot as several sites suggested. This also did not work. I feel like I'm being discouraged from doing this since it is so difficult.

I have an iPhone 10 and a Mac Air, all of which are updated.
