Can't connect ios9

Spotify won't connect on my iPad, my wife's iPad or my iPhone all running ios9.1

when I try to connect, the "connecting..." bar just stays the same and never connects.

strangely tracks will play for about 10-12 seconds then pause, even though Spotify is offline.  All tracks are greyed out.

Spotify will work on my wife's android phone over our wifi. It will also play on my daughters iPad running ios7. I don't believe it's a wifi or router issue.

ive tried a reinstall, logged out/in etc.

It seems the issue is caused by background apps.

closing them all and Spotify works ...

itll be be trial and error to find out which one is the problem.
