Cannot play downloaded playlist when offline

When I open a downloaded playlist when I am offline, all of the tracks are listed in an almost unreadable faint gray font now, and I cannot play them anymore. When I tap on one of the tracks it says 'Track not available. You are offline. Go online and try again', which does not make a lot of sense. Does anybody know why? Thanks!
