Delay in starting song playback on latest IOS with latest Spotify app update

Hey,

I am running an iPhone 6 16gb with the latest IOS and latest version of the Spotify IOS app. I have a canadian Spotify account. 

What I have noticed is that since the last 2 updates when I search for a song and click it to play there can be up to a 10 second delay before the track starts playing. If I select a song and then lock the screen as I have done since 2009 the track will refuse to even start. I have to wait for playback to begin before being able to lock the phone and put it in my pocket. This only happens when I select a song from cold i.e no song playing already, when I press skip with a track playing there is no problem. This has only happened since the last 2 updates (the one that  introduced the menu bar at the bottom and then the next one that took it away??)

Any help would be appreciated. I have tried reinstalling the app and soft resetting the handset and still no dice.
