Distorted sound when using EQ on iPhone XS

When using iPhone XS over Bluetooth, increasing lows even slightly will result in very distorted sound.  Happens when using AAC and SBC codecs, on two different target devices.

This doesn't happen when I am using the lightning port, nor did it happen on my old iPhone 7.
