Does high streaming quality take priority over low download quality?

Does high streaming quality take priority over low download quality?

So basically, let's say I have download quality set to low, and streaming quality to high/extreme (this being because I have a phone without a ton of space, but still prefer to listen to music on high quality). When I'm on wifi/cellular, will a downloaded song still stream in high/extreme? Or will it just play the lower quality downloaded file?

Been wondering this for a while, maybe it's been answered but I couldn't find a threading asking this.

Hi,

Speaking for my desktop app - my local file takes the priority. I have my music set to highest quality on all devices and am always online with my home wifi.
But if I hit a song that's stored on my HD as well as in their catalog - Spotify will stream the local version which is sometimes lower quality.
When I'm on mobile it will as well only if I have a downloaded playlist - which I don't usually do for phone storage purposes.

You can turn off the local settings in preferences, but I tend to just leave it.

That might answer your question?
