Enhanced playlist not working since last update

Solved!

Enhanced playlist not working since last update

Plan

Premium

Country

Canada

Device

iPhone 5s - yes it is old, so am I, get over it.

Operating System

iOS 12.5.6

Spotify version 8.7.4.1352

Enhanced playlist will not work for me since the most recent update. It was working fine up to then. My premium account is active. I have good wi-fi. My Playlists work fine if enhanced is turned off. Once Enhanced is turned on nothing happens when I hit the shuffle play button, and nothing if I try and start an individual song from the list including ones I added. Like songs are working fine, all other playlist work fine.

Not the end of the world, but I was liking this feature to find new songs similar to my taste.

Hi there @sandmanbc71,

Sorry to hear the Enhance feature is causing trouble on your end. It seems though that the device is in fact the root cause here.

As you can see in our system requirements, iOS 13 or higher is necessary to use Spotify properly. When you use an older device, it is possible for the app to still work for a while when you already have it installed, but it's to be expected that new features will tend to break and not function properly and over time, the app will stop working as well.

If you don't want to miss out on discovering new songs for your playlists, you can now also use Enhance on the desktop app.

Hope this clears things up.

Might not be the device, I have an iphone 13 pro max and recently any playlist with "enhanced" pressed does not play... I press play, just nothing happens. If I turn off the "enhanced" button everything works fine. This seems to be the case for all the playlists i've got. I've tried restarting the phone, and Spotify version is on the latest too. The playlists seem ok with this feature on the desktop version

Hey @daveandrewsmith,

Welcome to the Community and thank you for joining the conversation.

This type of issue is commonly related to some damaged cache stored on your device. We understand you've already tried some troubleshooting steps, but we'd recommend performing a clean reinstall of the app by following the steps in this article. This is often an overlooked step, but it's more thorough than a quick one and can be helpful in getting rid of any cache that might be causing trouble.

If the issue persists, include in your next response the OS version and Spotify version you're currently running.

We'll be on the lookout.

daveandrewsmith  Thanks for the affirmation that this is not just my device. Sounds like exactly the same symptoms on your device as mine. And the experts will continue to tell us to clear our cache, reinstall the app etc, when this is almost certainly the result of the last Spotify update. It would sure be nice to be able to roll back updates like other apps, even MS others this option on Windows updates. In the meantime I will go hop in a circle on one foot while reciting the national anthem in French or whatever else tech support thinks will solve the problem that they will assure me is my device and not their update.

Ok, so I deleted the app completely, then reinstalled, and now enhanced playlists seem to work again. Took a minute or so - I hope it works for you.

I have been having issues with my enhanced playlists recently. One issue was the app didn’t update then it was fixed for a while but but it just happened again and I deleted the app then reinstalled it and it still isn’t working. I love the enhanced feature but not when it’s not working. Would love some help. Thanks

I’ve actually done a clean install on my 12 Pro Max and the same exact issue as you had still exists.
