How to stop spotify from automatically syncing albums and playlists across different devices

I am having this frustrating issue, and I have searched online and not found an answer. Is it possible for spotify to not automatically download songs to a certain device? I have spotify on my android phone, and it is great. My phone has 64gb, so I can download all the songs that I please on that. What is not great is that spotify decides to also download those songs to spotify on my ipad, which has only 16gb of space. I have removed all of the songs from spotify a few days back on my ipad, only to find that they have all been redownloaded without my permission. Please help me out here.
