Local files won't sync to iPhone 6

So I can see my songs listed on the playlist I made for the local files on my phone, but they're greyed out and won't let me play.  When I try, I get an error telling me how to sync them, which I've followed those instructions to no avail.  I've also deleted and reinstalled both the app on my phone and the PC software, still no go.  Any ideas what else I can do?

Apparently it was a firewall issue. I had to completely disable my Firewall on Windows 8 to get it to sync, even though I had it allowed (or so I thought) as an approved app. Is there something else I need to do?
