No response to Play button on ipad

Spotify works well on my desktop and my ipad works well. For 6 months I have had Spotify on my ipad and normally it works. But sometimes when I 've pressed the play button on Spotify on the ipad nothing happens, either online or offline, as if it were stuck. This has happened on 3 or 4 occasions, and the problem has mysteriously disappeared a few days later. Now yet again the button is stuck - when I press play there is no response (the pause icon changes to play and vice versa but there is no play). Does anyone know why this happens, how it can be prevented and what I can do about it when it happens?
