Podcast play order cannot be changed even if the sort order is what I want

My Question or Issue

When I play podcasts, I usually want to play the latest episode first and want Spotify to autoplay the second-latest episode automatically. After googling for this, the suggested solution is to change the sort order for that podcast to "Newest to Oldest". My sort order is already this. Also, changing to a different sort order does not affect the play order. Spotify still plays the older episodes first and then the newer episodes.

How do I fix this?

I also have this problem, really annoying when listening to a podcast that has a storyline - doesn't matter how I order form newest to oldest or oldest to newest it always wants to play from new to old. So if you play the first episode it wont automatically play the next, if you manually play next episode then it at the end auto plays the last episode you have already listened to.... I didn't use to do this, but it does now...is there a fix yet? This is when playing on my PC, not sure about the mobile ap.

This is still an issue in 2022 on my Spotify web app although I have never had this problem on my phone (pixel4) app. It doesn't matter if I sort it from oldest to newest or newest to oldest, if I hit "next" it always takes me back to the one before. This is really frustrating when listening to audio dramas or podcasts with many parts of the same story, or simply trying to listen to a podcast from the beginning. It seems as if this is the default. I've posted screenshots below. One set is before and after I hit "next" in Newest - Oldest, the other is before and after I hit "next" in Oldest - Newest. It does the exact same thing. 

Please add a function so we can toggle this on/off. Thank you.

4 years later and this is still an incredibly ridiculous issue. Play order on iOS app and iOS safari is ALWAYS Oldest to Newest regardless of episode sort order when on the Podcast’s Episodes page. Please fix this already. This is so annoying. I see on other threads that the opposite is the problem for browser users. How is it that y’all are having a 5-year problem getting the play queue to follow the episode sort???

The default order of playing podcasts is newest to oldest which makes no sense. Can you please change this so that they play chronologically oldest to newest?
