When I open my Spotify app it sometimes plays random songs from new artists that I have never heard of and I’m thinking it’s a promotion thing but it’s very annoying and I tried turning off auto play to make it stop but that did nothing, how do I make this stop happening?
Solved! Go to Solution.
of course it keeps hapenning, sadly
Hey folks,
Apologies for the late reply here.
@nicktchiprout, thanks for sharing what worked for you.
@carlosjreynaq, @mylengrave, this does indeed sound like it's being caused by a 3rd party app. Do you by any chance have any new entries in your Manage Apps list here? If yes, send us a few screenshots of the page (so we can report them to the relevant team if needed), remove them and let us know if the issue persists.
If it does, send over the info requested by @Maria above, so we can investigate further.

My Question or Issue
sometimes when i open spotify, a random song or playlist i don’t even know starts to play. I wonder if it’s a bug or are the „artists” buying „views”
Hey there @extraterrestre,
Thanks for getting in touch about this here in the Community.
Just to confirm, is this only happening on your iPhone or on other devices as well? If it only happens on your iPhone, could you let us know if it happens when you have a Bluetooth device connected?
If it's happening across devices, it's recommended you secure your account by following the steps below:
It's also worth checking the apps that are linked to your Spotify account on your account page under Apps and remove any you don't recognize. You can find out more tips on how to protect your account here.
Let us know how it goes.
I only use spotify on my phone so i don’t really know if it’s a device thing. sometimes it even happens when use wired earphones so i don’t think it’s bluetooth. I did everything you recommended. Thank you for your help
Hey @extraterrestre,
Thanks for the quick response!
As @MihailY and @Dessi have mentioned previously in this thread, the thing that first comes to mind in this situation is that a third party app you may have enabled on your device can be causing this. If you have not taken a look at the third party apps, I'd advise you to do so - just head over here, make sure to note down the apps you now have and then remove their accesses one by one to see if anything would make a difference.
You can re-add any of them again at a later point if you wish to do so. Note that any 3rd party service bearing the name "Spotify Premium Plan" or "Spotify Premium Access" is not your Spotify Premium service and should be removed.
And, to make sure we're on the same page - could you confirm to us how you're starting the app on your device? Are you opening it normally or through the widget and does the music start automatically upon connecting the mobile device to the headphones, or does it start only when you access the app a specific way?
Much appreciated! We'll be on the lookout for your reply 🙂
thank you for your response. i’ve already checked the third party apps and i don’t have anything suspicious there. i open the app normally by the widget and it starts playing right away
Hey @extraterrestre,
Thanks for your reply.
In order for us to take a closer look at this, can you let us know the following:
It would be really helpful if you could also send us a few track examples (preferably with links).
Appreciate your cooperation!
i don’t use tiktok. it’s not similar to anything i listen to. next time it happens, i’ll pay closer attention to what song is plying and where from. thank you for your help
Hey there @extraterrestre,
Thanks for keeping us in the loop and for all the info shared.
You mentioned earlier that you use the widget to play content. Would you mind checking if the same happens when opening the app normally from the app’s icon?
On another note, we’d like to gather some additional info. Please send us:
Remember to let us know what you see in the Now playing view, at the top where it says Playing from.
We’ll be on the lookout!
sorry, i meant i always open spotify by clicking the icon, english is not my first language haha. im running the 9.0.86.1354 version. it doesn’t happen every time i open the app, actually it happens quite rarely - like once a month, so when i’ll log in from another device it probably won’t happen anyway. i can’t predict it, it happens randomly. i don’t know when it started. my answer probably doesn’t help you a lot, i’m sorry. it doesn’t bother me that much, i was just curious. the next time a song will pop up i’ll make sure to note down what i see in the now playing view. thank you
Thanks for the clarification @extraterrestre.
It's important to know that it's not the widget causing this behavior and instead you're accessing Spotify via the app icon on your phone.
We really appreciate all of the provided details so far, as well as your cooperation. With time, as you mention that this happens quite rarely, let us know if by any chance you notice if the behavior occurs after something specific, perhaps it's the way you're navigating throughout the app.
You mentioned this sometimes happens with wired headphones, but could you clarify if it's ever happened while using Bluetooth to stream to another device?
Lastly, when this happens again it would also help us if we could see what Spotify looks like and if it's possible to capture this in some way, you can attach it here to your next response (only make sure no sensitive info is visible).
As suggested by @MihailY here it'd be great if you could also send us a few track examples (preferably with links).
We're just a post away in the meantime.
@Ivelina i don’t exactly remember if it happens with bluetooth devices too. it just happened now though, right after i plugged in my earphones. it’s myles smith, playing from „this is myles smith” playlist made by spotify. i think the same thing played when it happened last time, i remember the cover. screenshots attached. thank you for your time:)
@Ivelina oh and it says it’s playing from a wired connection in polish
Hey @extraterrestre,
Thank you for keeping in contact and for your patience.
It's indeed an odd behavior as we couldn't replicate it from our end, so we've passed your feedback internally. We don't have a specific date for this to be resolved, but in the meantime, we'd recommend making sure your account is safe and protecting it with the steps mentioned here.
We'd also suggest keeping your Spotify app updated, so you don't miss any improvements coming your way.
Thanks again for your report. If anything else comes up, don't hesitate to ask.
@OscarDC i secured my account. thank you very much for your time and help!
