Resync in Extreme - are "Normal" files replaced (deleted)?

Basically what the subject says. I synced everything to my new phone on Normal, forgetting to tap "Extreme." I tapped Extreme and it offered to resync my stuff. Does doing this delete the "Normal" files? I know they're obviously gone in terms of playing in that quality, but I wanted to know that Spotify wasn't taking up extra space for no reason.

Old offline playlist with guality a is replaced with quality b. Nothing will take your space more than needed.
