Tried the ap while out for exercise and was constantly disrupted by the pausing and skipping even though nothing touched my phone and the screen was locked. I think it's a shame there's no better way to get support here and see no point in upgrading when customer service is lacking.
Just to confirm, is this happening when you listen to Spotify using a specific audio output, like headphones? If so, try using your phone's speaker or different headphones to see if it behaves the same.
