Spotify very slow to open on iOS 9

Spotify has been extremely slow to open (startup) on my iPod (5th gen, running iOS 9.0.2) for a while now.

It takes easily 15-20 seconds from I click on the spotify icon until it opens properly and I get the menu. And all the while it just displays the Spotify icon on the screen. It gives me a desperate case of annoyed data stress to have to wait that long each time I want to open Spotify!

What could be the problem?

Sometimes It takes so long to launch that the iPhone goes to sleep during the launch. If that happens, the whole phone freezes and I have to do a hard reset.
