Streaming vs. Downloaded song -- which plays?

I understand that if I download a song, it will play when I'm offline. But if I am online (either on wifi or cellular), which version of the song plays -- the downloaded one or a streaming one?

Additionally, if I select the highest quality version for both downloads and streaming, which should be better? Thanks!

It depends if the song you're listening to is the downloaded song from the provider of the song, or if it's an upload from another user/artist.

Both quality's should be the same. You can read more about it here.
