Trying to connect 2nd generation iTouch to Spotify

I can't download the app on my iTouch, so I'm trying to sync through a USB on my laptop, but my iTouch doesn't show up under devices. Do I really need to have the app? It says that I can connect with a USB, but it's not working. /: Help please? I've  been trying to figure this out for hours.

Hi ElahLaBella - Currently the Spotify app can only be used with devices that support iOS 5. The 2nd generation iTouch can only support up to iOS 4.
