There can be more than one reason why the music would suddenly stop. Below you can see a few examples about what could be the case. In this article we'll go over the most common causes and how to solve these.
- There is something wrong with the Spotify installation on your device
- You might have forgotten to log out on a different device and a friend or family member is unknowingly listening using your account
- Perhaps you are in an area with lesser cellular coverage
- Or an unauthorized party has gained access to your account and is trying to stream music
There is something wrong with the Spotify installation on your device.
As with any unexpected behavior, it's a good idea to try a reinstallation to see if that solves the issue. Here you can find a detailed explanation on how to do a thorough reinstallation of the app.
Try the next steps if this doesn't help ⤵️
You might have forgotten to log out on a different device and a friend or family member is unknowingly listening using your account.
This can be solved easily with the following two steps:
- Change your Spotify password, which you can do here
- Log your account out from all devices it's logged into, you can do this here
Note: Step 2 doesn’t include partner devices, such as Sonos and PlayStation. For more information about logging out (or unlinking) Spotify from a partner device, check the device’s manufacturer guide.
If you have a Facebook-created Spotify account, you'll need to change your Facebook password as well, and log your Facebook profile out from all devices.
Perhaps you are in an area with lesser cellular coverage.
Find out if lowering the streaming quality helps. If this helps, you'll also save some on your available data. Here's how you can change your audio settings:
Desktop
- Click on your profile picture in the top-right corner and select Settings.
- Under Audio Quality, select your preferred settings. You can choose Low under Streaming quality.
Mobile & tablet
- Tap your profile picture in the top-left corner.
- Tap Settings and privacy (the cogwheel icon)
- Under Audio Quality, select your preferred settings.
Alternatively you could save music for Offline use and enable Offline-mode when visiting an area with low cellular coverage. More info about Offline music here.
Or an unauthorized party has gained access to your account and is trying to stream music.
Hopefully this is not the issue! But if none of the above steps have helped, we recommend following the steps on this page, just in case. We'll be sure to secure your account and revert any changes that have been made.
