can't cast music from my spotify app on my iphone, why is it?

my wife have iphone with google home installed, i have android with google home installed. we have 3 different google nest mini 2nd gen smart speakers which we use constantly to cast music from our phones.
today, my with noticed that she can't cast music from her spotify app to the speakers, while i can still cast music easly.
more things to know:
if she says "hey google play X from spotify", it works. and on the spotify app it shows the speaker name correctly but it is labeled as airplay and she can't see the other speakers.
the google home app works pretty well on her phone, i dont think the issue is here
she recently bought an apple watch, not sure if this is connected somehow

Can you please give us a bit more info about your setup so we can investigate further? Are all 3 Google devices registered with the same Google account? If yes, then whose Spotify account is connected to the Google account in the Google Home app?

Also, would it be possible to send us a few screenshots from the device picker menu in your Spotify app?
