iOS not sending track info to car stereo via Bluetooth

I have a Kenwood car stereo and a new iPhone 6. I get a great bluetooth connection with running Spotify; however, no track information is displayed on the radio and I cannot move back and forth between songs.

The odd thing is I think I had the same issue with my old iPhone, but did not experience the same thing with a Samsung Galaxy S5 that I just had. It had all metadata for track info and I could control song selection.

Now, when I plug my iPhone in via USB, I get all controls and track info (Galaxy wouldn't do that).... I'm wondering if it is because my stereo is geared towards direct iPhone input?

I don't want to always connect via USB. Although I think the sound is better than bluetooth, I don't necessarily want to partially charge the phone each time.
