Update: iOS update 0.5.9 has fixed the stability issues. Please update now and test it out.
The new iOS 0.5.8 update has killed the iPad app. Even after reinstall it constantly crashes. What's going on?
I'm running iOS 6.0.1 on the 4th generation iPad.
Spotify can't seem to get their act together...
New update also kills the people tab on the iPad.
When clicking on the people tab, friends are shown for a few seconds and then the list disappears.
This happens on every re-launch. There is no way to get the people list to show for more than 3 seconds.
Also after clicking on settings and clicking on a settings menu on the iPad, the settings back arrow is cut off at the top.
My music experience has been ruined by these bugs.
UPDATE:
I was able to use the app for a while -- notice the other bugs I found -- and after downloading playlists for offline use, the app started crashing.
Looks like downloading any playlist for offline use will constantly crash the app until you reinstall the app.
The most used feature on the iPad app constantly crashes the app?
What...? Updates need more testing before going live.
I would be happy to help test future updates.
Solved! Go to Solution.
I have the same problems please make some maintence on my playlists as well. 🙂
Yes you seem to have fixed the scrolling issue.
But now I've got parts of my playlist folder structure duplicated, but empty. see screenshots:
You have somehow duplicated my albums playlist and added some extra stuff in:
so instead of just Playlists -> Albums
I now hav ethat plus Playlists -> Albums -> Playlists -> Albums
When i visit the deepest albums folder in the 2nd line I see a weird list:
I can just delete that folder if you like, but thought I'd warn you incase you have a bug in your query.
@Bengan It works!! Thank you.
Have just spent a few minutes messing around within playlists, scrolling to the end of them, playing tracks from them, all ok.
I've come out of the app, closed it down and restarted and all, so far, seems well.
I see you've stuck some individual playlists into 3 levels of playlist folder, will that have to stay like that for now then? Will you be looking at another update to fix permanently?
Hi Bengan. Will you be fixing this for all individual users or rolling out an update ASAP? I too have the same issue the others have encountered and would appreciate either an individual fix relearn update released sharpish.
I've stopped using the app completely on my android phone due to constant issues and I'd hate to have to follow suit on iPad too.
please?
Description
iOS app crashes when scrolling on the playlist section. This happens after a reinstall of the app, clearing all caches and cookies in Safari, and occured in iOS 5 and 6.
A more detailed description, using numbered steps
1. I updated a playlist on the Linux desktop version.
2. I started up the app to sync songs locally for the drive home.
3. I checked the playlist on the app to check the progress of the sync.
4. The app then crashed.
NOTE: At one point, the Linux client was having trouble connecting to Spotify (it would go to Offline Mode immediately), and on another occasion, it did have a note saying that it could not sync playlists and would try later. At that time, the playlist would show up on the iPhone with several entries that said "Loading ...." and would then eventually crash.
At this time, I can see playlist updates on the iPhone and there are no complaints from the Linux desktop about syncing or offline mode.
I can also select the items other than the "Playlist" selector on the app and it will stay up.
I'm wondering if something got corrupted when the playlist could not sync and it causes the app to crash.
What I expected to happen
I expected the playlist to update from the Linux desktop to the iOS App and not crash.
What actually happened
The update did not succeed and the application crashed.
My iPad/iPhone model
iPhone 3GS
Device’s Operating System
This was replicated with iOS 5 and I also upgraded to iOS 6.0.1 to see if that would help. It did not. The behavior was identical on both operating system versions.
Is your device jailbroken?
No, it is most definitely not.
Approximately how many playlists do you have?
Approximately 50. I have trimmed that number down with no effect on the crashing.
Currently no playlists are set to sync locally, although this is something I use often (and one of the main reasons I pay for the service 🙂 )

Not worked I'm afraid Bengan
tried it, restarted, tried again, still crashes without loading anything
Same Problem here, can't even open Spotify app on the iPad 3, it crashes on every start since the update...horrible!
Oh dear, spotify. Some QA would be useful next time. Hello rdio.
I have the same problem on my iPad 2. Works fine on my iPhone 4S, on my iPad it crashes immediately on startup.
yes, works ok on my iphone5 (even it still looks poor), but it keeps on crashing at the iPad 3
Where is the quality assurance? You should invest more money and time into the product than integration with Facebook. So sad.
Have the same problem, as a workaround i'm using the Tunigo IOS app. You can login with your spotify credentials and all your playlists are available in addition to the ones from Tunigo.
Now somethong wierd happend. When I opend the app a lot of my playlist and playlist folders had been moved to one folder. I moved them back where I previously had them using the desktop version and everything seems to work now.
What happend???
Description
The Spotify app on my iPhone 4 crashes every time i scroll my playlist screen to the bottom.
A more detailed description, using numbered steps
1. Updated to the latest version of the Spotify app (0.5.8.73)
2. Open spotify, it shows my playlists screen by default (the bug only seems to affect this screen)
3. I scroll to bottom to see a folder and it crashes to home screen. If i scroll right to the bottom within a playlist, or within a folder containing no sub-folders, it works fine. The issue only affects the root Playlists view.
4. I tried closing all apps and rebooting.
5. I deleted the spotify app and reinstalled - still **bleep**ing broken.
6. I deleted the spotify app, then ebooted and then reinstalled. Still broken.
What I expected to happen
The app to work as advertised and not crash continually.
What actually happened
The app has become unusable

Do you have any screenshots you can attach to more clearly explain your issue?
Look at this screenshot
If i scroll past this point it crashes. I can scroll as much as I like above that point.
@Tharobc We're working on this issue and we're trying to solve it asap 🙂
@IcyBloke I'm afraid you'll have to move around the playlists yourself to make them show up where they used to. Easiest way to do this is through the desktop client 🙂
@JackTheLad I did some maintenance on your playlists, it might've shuffled some around but it should've worked after that 🙂
@Bengan Yes it works now but i would really like to know what the problem was.
Thanks for the help!
@JackTheLad there seems that some of the users have a broken structure on their playlist folders, this might have happened when logging in with some older client and didn't become an issue until they logged in on 0.5.8. Very hard for us to catch this issue 😞
Thanks to everyone for the feedback here, we're working on solving this issue asap! 🙂
I don´t have any playlist folders, and I still have this problem. Crashing on startup.
Adding to the list of people who are having issues with the app crashing. Appears to be an issue with the "What's New" category on my end. Running the app on an ipad mini. Everytime I click on "what's New" it crashes. Deleted it and reinstalled the app and now it it won't even launch after login - just crashes. Again associated with the "What's New" section. Like everyone else, I would like to use what I pay for.
