My Question or Issue
Since today I noticed that when I click on the search bar, my iPhone suggests that I can search for my home address. How’s that possible, it’s not a location field or anything.
Hey @Sjeesjie,
Thank you for reaching out to the Community.
On Spotify, the search bar shows some historical searches you have typed or suggestions about your latest searches. However, it doesn't suggest personal info, or other information different to music, artists, profiles, or podcasts. This means that the issue could be related to the Autofill function of your iPhone.
Every time you hit a search box where you can type, your iPhone will suggest information you've typed previously in case you need to use it again and to avoid re-typing all the information. Since this feature is on your phone, you can turn it off by following the steps on their support site.
In case the suggestion shown on the search bar is not related to the Autofill function, include in your next response a screenshot where we can see the suggestion made to investigate it further.
We'll be on the lookout.
Hi @OscarDC
I’ve turned off the Autofill feature of the iphone for a second and it still gives my home address as a suggestion. See the picture I added. You see it’s not in the search bar itself but on the keyboard. Is the input field somehow marked as a destination input or something?
Hey @Sjeesjie,
Thank you for keeping in contact and for the info shared.
Keep in mind that keyboard suggestions are a feature of your iPhone. Those are called predictive text and can also be turned off from your settings. To see how to do it, we'd recommend checking out this article from their support side.
There's nothing to worry about, we can confirm that this kind of information is not being stored in Spotify without your permission, it's just the predictive text showing you some suggestions.
We hope this clarifies things a bit. If you have any additional questions, don't hesitate to ask.
Sorry Oscar, but it’s not the predictive text setting. I’ve tried to switch that on and off, but that’s not it. You’re right though, it is showing the addresses in that spot on the keyboard.
I’m a web developer myself and it’s bending my mind on why it’s suggesting addresses in that search field, it doesn’t make sense.
When I start typing in “ap” it shows me the address of Apple.. I’ve never been there, it’s not in my contacts, I’ve never ever searched for it.
Hi there @Sjeesjie,
Thanks for the post.
Hmm, that is pretty strange. Can you check if you get the same autofill recommendations when you search in other apps?
You can also try clearing the Spotify app cache from Settings > Storage > Clear cache from within the Spotify app. This will clear all cached information, apart from your music downloads.
Let us know how it goes.
Cleared the cache, didn’t work.
I get this problem in at least one other app too: the bol.com app.
It it’s a search field for addresses, I get it that an address will be suggested but not in regular search fields.
Hi there @Sjeesjie,
Thanks for your reply.
To be honest, it looks like this issue is related to your phone and autofill settings rather than the Spotify app itself. Furthermore, we haven't received other reports about similar issues.
I'd suggest you reach out to the support team from Apple about this behavior. Most likely some cached autofill information is being prioritized when the Search is open. This is most likely not stored in the Spotify cache and app data itself, since you've cleared the cache and the address still comes up.
Let us know how you get on with this.
Hi Alex,
Well I finally got it! The culprits are Siri and my Contacts app. In Contacts, there's a setting "Learn from this app". So the keyboard suggestions apparently came from Siri, having learned them from Contacts.... Mystery solved, thanks for your input guys.
Hey @Sjeesjie,
Thanks for your reply!
