I've been syncing my 80gb iPod Classic through Spotify for months already, but i decided to redo all of my playlists (local music only) and figured that factory resetting my iPod would be best in order to make sure there wouldn't be any problems with fragmented files or anything. After the reset, I open Spotify with no problems, but when i plug in my iPod, it shows it under the Devices list for a second and then Spotify crashes. I tried opening it back up with my iPod still plugged in, and it crashes upon opening. After a few tests of my own, I've determined that if I leave my iPod unplugged from my laptop, Spotify has no problems at all, but the second it's plugged in, all hell breaks loose. Any idea what the problem could be?
Solved! Go to Solution.
Tried all 3 of my USB ports, problem exists with all of them. Never had a problem with any of the ports with my external, my laptop cooling pad, or my mouse.
You can only sync the local tracks 🙂
It looks like one of those things sorry. You could keep trying, but I wouldn't have hope 😞
Liam
Just for clarification, i'm only trying to sync up the local files of my playlists (as i don't have money for Spotify Premium).
Unless its an iPod touch, that is all you can sync to a regular iPod even with premium 😉

well yeah, but i figured i'd lay that out there, in case the question arose xD
How about moving the tracks stored on your computer to another location? Spotify could panicking when trying to retrieve the files from their particular location.
I'll try it, but I don't think that could be the problem. I can't even get to the page that asks if i want to sync my iPod through Spotify, beacuse the second it detects my iPod is plugged in, Spotify crashes.
This move might also take a while, as i have over 12000 songs to move xD
12,000? Gee - I wouldn't worry about trying to move them then!
But that's still a lot. How about if you go into the Spotify Preferences and uncheck iTunes as a source for Local Tracks so it ignores them (just for the sake of this experiment). Does hooking up your iPod still cause a crash then?
yeah, i have a LOT of music. that said, apparently within windows 7, the folder system just uses a pointer system, as i moved everything to my downloads folder and it took like 30 seconds. yay referencing!
i don't need to worry about iTunes, as i've uninstalled it as per the suggestion of a previous commenter.

You can reinstall it if it didn't solve the issue 🙂
I thought it may have conflicted with the Spotify commands 😉
i don't want it on my computer, really. iTunes is never used by me, so it just takes up space.
Music moved, and i gave it time to load everything into spotify, and it still crashes.
Do you have 'enable disk use' ticked? http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1478
(sorry for the long response time there, class comes first)
Yes, "Enable disk use" is checked, as is "Manually manage music and videos". For the record, i also just tried it with "Manually manage music and videos" both checked and unchecked. here's a screenshot of the stats it's giving me on iTunes. http://i.imgur.com/cci19Ar.png

I'm having the exact same problem, Spotify crashes as soon as I plug in my Ipod. So annoying. Tried everything.
Does running Spotify as administrator make any difference on Windows?
- File > Exit Spotify
- Right click on desktop icon, select "Run as Administrator"
