iPod and iPhone not showing up under Devices ... with a twist

I had this same probably a few months ago. Then it miraculously fixed itself, even a wonder to the Spotify answer-guy here.

Now it's back again. Neither the IPod nor the iPhone will register under Devices.

The twist is: If I make a new music directory/folder, these immediately show up on both the iPod and iPhone. Meaning, obviously, there's a connection between the desktop client and the devices.

The big question: What is wrong with the list? Why can't these things show up under Devices?

I haven't changed a thing since it was working a couple months ago. One thing, I've been messing around with Amazon Cloud and uploading my CDs, and I have the Amazon Cloud app on the iPod and iPhone. That surely wouldn't cause a conflict, would it?
