The new setup for playlists are really bad. Can we get the old one back? The new one is messy and hard to use.

Right now there is no way to switch it back.

i am still wondering how they updated the app. it doesn't say any in my "app store updates" tab. are "in-app" updates possible and did spotify change to use them instead?

The new update was an in-app update that did not require it to be updated via the app store.

Spotify uses in-app updates sometimes to push new features. The Your Music layout connects to Spotify's server, so all Spotify had to do was push the update from their server.

Usually most updates will require an app store update.
