Every time I shut downWindows 7 x64 (on a fast computer), I get a message saying that Spotify prevents Windows from shutting down. If I manually tries to exit Spotify, it takes just a few milliseconds, so that should not be the problem.
Is it possible to make Spotify automatically exit when Windows shuts down?

Solved! Go to Solution.
I and everybody that I've asked have this problem:)
It's not a big problem since you can Force Shutdown when you turn the computer off, but can be very annoying when you are tired and forget to force it down, then you wake up the next morning and the computer is still standing there waiting for shutdown and Spotify is the one holding him 😛
Versions:
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate x64 (Service Pack 1)
Spotify: 0.9.4.185.g7545a404
Same Problem for me. Its annoying.
OS: Windows 7 Professional 32 Bit
Spotify: Version 0.9.4.185.g7545a404
Plus i have my Spotify-Applicationfolder moved to a custom directory.
I also added local music files from a secondary Harddrive to Spotify.
Same here, annoying!
OS: Windows 7 Professional N 64 Bit
Spotify: Version 0.9.4.185.g7545a404
SOLUTION:
Be careful when you do this, maybe Spotify won't take damage from doing this. But if there are other programs that have stuff that hasn't been saved, it will be gone.
Also; I don't take any responsibility if this damages your computer in any way, proceed on your on risk.
What this does is that it creates a shortcut on your desktop that you can shutdown your computer with, that always turns it off as fast as possible, forcing programs that won't shutdown to shutdown.
1. Right click on your desktop.
2. Choose "New"
3. Choose "Shortcut"
4. In the textbox "Type the location of the item", write;
shutdown.exe -s -f -t 0
5. Press "Next"
6. Enter a name for your shortcut.
7. Finish!
That's all there is to it.
If you right-click this shortcut and choose "properties" you can make a key-binding for it, so that you can turn off your computer with for example Ctrl-Alt-Q.
Hope this helps!
I would strongly recommend not doing this. It is only slight better than just pulling the plug/battery from your running machine.
Agreed. Also, make Spotify application able to interact with Windows 7 windows commands. If I drag any other window to the top or sides of the screen, the window will size to full or half screen (respectively). Spotify does not do this. Spotify will also not respond if I right-click my menu bar and tile/cascade all windows. Please fix these issues!
Version 0.9.4.185.g7545a404

I've bumped the escalation about this issue to see if there is any news for you guys.

Yes. you guys that have suggested that I quit Spotify but stay connected to this group to see when the problem is fixed have given me the solution to my problem. I am quitting, going over to the larger company that I will not name. Let's see if they have the problem. If spotify fixes this I may return because I would like to see them successful but.....
The scond best thing is to just right click the Spotify Icon on your task bar and choose "Quit Spotify" before shutting down your computer 🙂
[DEV] You're not checking if the Application Close message comes from the user or the OS.

(not sure if Spotify is in C# or C++, but for the second option there should be similar solution)'
P.S. Are there any awards for precise bug fix solutions? 🙂
Not that I am aware of @theluke .

Confirm that problem is solved, Spotify 0.9.6.72
Redownloaded from site and reinstalled. Appears this left me with the version that isn't fixed (0.9.4). Can't find a way to update. Uninstalled it again.
@Nimdae - The newest version hasn't hit the download pages just yet.

I know that this thread is very old, but i have this problem now... I have tried reinstalling it, and i even reinstalled windows (not for this problem), but the bug was still there...
Yeah! I have this problem as well on both my PC's.
Me too.
Seems to have reappeared with the Windows 10 Anniversary Update last week.
So I'm inclined to believe in a change on the Windows side of things, which requires an adjustment in behaviour from the spotify app.
This doesn't appear to be the case for other applications after the anniversary update, so Spotify must be doing something different there.
